Still don't see the logic in join a metal detecting forum, solely to impress us all with his bloated vocabulary. Not smart enough to impress the rest of the MENSA crowd? Could only be for his personal amusement. The winter drama is starting early this year, barely getting cold here. Almost dipped down into the upper 50's last night...

well you know the old saying....those that can detect, detect. those that cant....write insultingly condecending posts that cast doubt about other forum member's intelligence , and level of education.

my opinion is this....he wants to strut around on the forums and try to impress others with his stuffed shirt type of creative writing, so be it. it doesnt mean we've got to read it and let it bother us. nuff said .

I know one thing, if I was standing at the urinal in a public restroom and a guy walks in and looks over at me and says " my vocabulary is bigger than yours". Well boys, somebody is losing an eye.

I think writercop is either an English teacher or teenager?:popcorn2:

No, he's a writer for a policemag and yes I decided to read some after discovering the site and I guess I have to ask this. Are you dumbing it down for the audience you are writing for? AKA The police. Because that style is easily followed and doesn't come across as being snarky.
snark·y
ˈsnärkē/
adjective
informal
adjective: snarky; comparative adjective: snarkier; superlative adjective: snarkiest

1.
(of a person, words, or a mood) sharply critical; cutting; snide.
"the kid who makes snarky remarks in class"
cranky; irritable.
Yes it is a word in the urban dictionary........don't like it? Tough! Go write a new dictionary! I have been pulled over by cops like you before, your SNARKY, elitist attitude being packed right along with your badge and gun. Not impressed dude. MENSA you say? You spent 25 years with them battling idiocy in the streets? To me that is an insult basically hailed out of you not only to the people of this forum but to our general society as well. No one here is a paid writer? Hell I dunno. I am writing several books at the moment and have written since junior high. Have I been published? Yes! Had a short story published in high school just before I graduated, married, had kids, life blah blah. Will I get published? You bet your snarky a** I will! What have I been doing? Working on cars......you could call it my 25 years with MENSA if you want to. Do I know published writers? Yes! Very well! Guess what? None of them even come close to communicating with people the way you do. In fact I showed this post to one of them and they laughed their ass off and said it looked to them like you were trying to play Who's Smarter Than A 5th grader on our forum. Does MENSA have a forum or did they throw you outta there too? :wow:

I know when you join a writers forum, "newbies are encouraged to introduce themselves ahead of time..."

If you wanted to, maybe you should post these writings 'there' as an offering of your literary talents - you could seek a critique from actual writers, and not the fifth grade crowd. But wait, 'there' it is customary to review a few pieces (of others work) before asking for reviews yourself.

Here you were lucky enough to get your review of your new found talent - over the top, elitist, condescending, not speaking to your audience on their level, etc...

Now lets get back to detecting - I still haven't bought a detector yet.

With Ebooks, anyone can be a published author, and sell books. Doesn't matter the content, or quality, unless there are complaints, which is free advertising, and generally boosts sales. The book will get pulled, eventually...

Printed books, just aren't as popular as they once were, unless it's a textbook, reference book, or collectable work. Most people just don't have the space for bookshelves, or the desire to keep them dusted off. Few books get re-read, pretty much a single use item, in most cases. Loan them to friends, leave them sit around, hope a child takes an interest, which isn't as likely, video games are more fun...

My 'take' on the whole ?? what?

Well, I'm can't believe that I sat here this morning and read this entire thread. But, I've always been bad about such. If I begin to read a book, I very seldom (only remember about 3) quit until I finish reading the entire book. Likewise, I do forum threads the same way (most time). Yes, I feel that I wasted some of the time left in my life. At 71, I'm beginning to think about what I want to do with what's left of my life.
WriterCop, I can't fault you for using big words in your posts; but a lot of folks see such as just a lot drivel and skip it. If more common words were used, a lot more would be reading it. I, probably one of many, won't read anymore of your posts; unless the language is changed. Will I be missing something? Possibly; but probably not. As for everyone that has made their comments about your posts, I feel that are entitled to their opinions; including myself. I also feel guilty of wasting more of what time I have left on this old earth by writing this!!!
Actually, I got kicked off one forum a few years ago (not a detecting forum) for writing what I thought about some comments from some of the members. I probably would not have been kicked off if I had not pressed the situation; but I did. Am I sorry that I did it? Not really! I felt about it like you do about your use of words. If I were you, I would use simpler language; but use your own judgment about it. If your want your posts read by more people, I believe that it would greatly help.
There! Stated my opinion! What it's worth? Absolutely nothing.
To all, hope you have a great day and great detecting. (If the weather warms to a decent temperature today, I'm going to start back into serious detecting!)

Well said Texas Red and welcome to the forum .Being pretty close to the same age you are I share some similar thoughts . I hope the weather warms up for you today
and you dig up something that puts a smile on your face every time you look at it .

Did you answer the question, do you metal detect? I would think after being a member for 2.5 years, there would be at least one thread where you posted a find. But nothing. If you like writing so much, why have you written nothing in the time you have been a member of this forum, besides two intros?

Well being he is a elite mensa forum member he would need 30 minuts to figure out that trick puzzle question :p

Let us now talk of all things metal, and the detecting thereof; and be done with this nonsense!
