The last delivery of the night turned out to be one worth sticking around for... I delivered to a house that I haven't been to in about 3 years. I knew it was old but I couldn't remember what it looked like or how old. I pulled down the long lane to their house and my eyes got really wide.... WOW! It is a 4 story brick house that shows its age. I told the owner that the I thought their house was amazing and I asked if she knew how old it is? She told me that it is coming up on 200 years old and that it is one of the oldest in our area. I suppose she must be right considering Ohio has only been a state for 205 years and our town just had its bicentennial. The folks that had built it must have had some money to put into such a large house and be able to fire their own bricks for the house. She asked if I wanted to see the inside...Sure! She showed me that there are 3 trap door hidden rooms that extend from the house into the hillside behind the house. Coool! She said that the house was used during the underground railroad days and they would hide people in the rooms. She pointed to the one area of the property where she said the carriage house once sat...Usually the carriage house was also the servants quarters too... So, she said I should come see the place when they are done remodeling... I told her that I am a student teacher that will focus on History and that I metal detect as a hobby... I asked her if she'd mind if I'd MD their yard... Sure...Go ahead!.... JACKPOT!!! I told her my name was Brian and that I had her phone number and I'd be getting in touch with her to find a convenient time to hunt the property... I was on cloud nine and I didn't even realize I also got a $5 tip out of the deal! Man, do I love deliveries like that one! I think I'm going to try to hunt the house on Tuesday if I have the day off.
