I searched a new permission today with little luck. But honestly, that's OK. It was just a couple of hours. The heat is pretty stifling here right now, and two hours was enough.
I found two 1979 pennies near my car, some lead toothpaste things, a clock face. Not much more. But the property has so much potential. The couple lives in a converted mill from the mid 1800's. It replaced a mill from the late 1700's. Which replaced a mill from the early 1700's. All on the same property. There has been continuous economic activity in this area for 300 years.
The owner is excited to introduce me to his neighbors. On their properties; the oldest house in my county in Northern Virginia, a short term Confederate encampment, a blacksmith shop, an old abandoned road, and a general store. All in about a square mile or less. Some has been detected before, much has not.
I plan to be as methodical as possible. The landowner has an idea where things were, and I'll take that into account. But I think my best plan is to slowly, methodically search every square foot that I can swing a detector over. Look for the mill sites. Look for the trash dump. I'm pretty excited about it.
Oh, how'd I get it? Years ago, I met the guy while I was magnet fishing. Turned out, my company was OEMing products through his, and I gave him a bunch of swag with their logo on it. Backpacks, pens, flashlights, stuff like that. I'd get boxes of the stuff for trade shows. I recently looked up the property owner name, connected with him through LinkedIn, and asked for permission through LinkedIn. Most use I've gotten out of that site in years.
