From left to right:

The wrench looking item isn't a wrench. The "handle" part of it is threaded...I'm guessing a piece of farm machinery.
A large washer.
2 square nails
?????
2 bullet casings. The end of one is stamped with an "H" and is rim fire. The other is a 44-40 and is stamped "D.C. Co." They are approx the same size.
12 ga Winchester brass

Nice stuff!!! Where did you find it...in an old barn?

Thanks for the post and pictures!!!!

Out in a plowed field where a house used to be. I'm not sure how long the house has been gone but I'd guess 30 years. Judging from the foundation blocks still in place (kinda), the house was there at least 100 years ago.
My detector is sounding off every few feet. I can't possibly dig it all. Help.

Wish I could Help ya.

I have family in Houston, TX, and I havn't visited them in a long time, I am well over due. When I do go visit I guess I'll send Out a Thread Saying Im going to Texas. Nice Finds By the way, you should try to use electrolosis on the wrench lookin thing. HH, Eric;)

What kind of detector is it? Maybe we can help you with the settings.

Just a shot in the dark but the shell casing with the "H" and being rimfire could be a Henry. What caliber is it?

Could very well be a Henry. I can't tell the caliber but it's the same size as the 44-40 I found just a few feet away.
It has two indentations on the bottom 180 degrees opposed.

I'm an hour north of Houston and I'll be looking for your thread.

Is the soil you are digging very reddish orange? I know where I hunted in Granbury, TX it was, which I later found out is highly mineralized and makes your MD go crazy. Turn your sensitivity down a whole lot, and it should help out quite a bit.

Oh and those "bullet casings" Since only the backing is left, they look they could the back brass of maybe some 410g shot shells.

One of them is marked "44-40 DC Co" so I know the caliber of that one. Since, I have learned that DC Co. is Dominion Cartridge Company. The other is the same size so it is approx 44 caliber. Definitely not shotgun shells.
The dirt in that area has a reddish tint so maybe I need to turn it down some.

Interesting... just weird then that only the back remain and not the actual elongated casing. Neato

Probably my fault. I had them standing up so that the ends would show. They are about 3/4 inch long.

Hmm... guess maybe the angle in the pic fooled me. Still very neat finds. I like old bullet casings finds, the only ones I have found were 30-06 casings at my parents farm house in TX.

It was typical for the rimfire to have two indentations opposed to each other. I guess it helped cover misfires. I found one last year and it had the same headstamp and indentations.

You got it on all metal mode?[/QUOTE]

Yes. But I've been switching back and forth just to see the difference. I'm new at this and still trying to figure out what gets picked up at different settings.

Just got back from the same spot and experimenting with the settings. Found what was left of an old pocket knife and what I believe to be a stem and gear from an old music box.

Tx,its good to experiment with your machine untill you know exactly what its telling you.If your in a trashy area and you have it on all metal mode your going to get signals every step of the way, thats when you will need to change modes
