Stanford University?

I've detected those expansive front lawns before. Back then it was more like chaparral . Not like nice manicured turf. Not sure what it's like now.

Have you ever detected up the creek near Niles? On Alameda Creek? Nothing there now but trees but years and years ago (like silent movie era) it was used as a recreation area with lots of swimming, some rowboats, etc...

There were multiple sites, up and down Niles Cyn, that were picnic sites "back in the day". There was a RR that ran through there, that took picnic people from the lower elevations (all the various bay area cities) and took train loads to picnics up there. Several competing picnic sites, at various ages/eras/locations.

And they've all been hammered to smithereens. But that's ~1.5 hrs. north of my part of CA. So that was the domain of the "San Jose crowd". Several md'rs from that area have hair-raising tales and tallies from those exploitations. To my knowledge, they've all been researched out and hammered by now.

Many of those stories were posted on Jeff Kinzli’s old California Detecting Forum, Kinzli’s Coils.
(btw, Jeff is a member here now, living in Texas I believe)
