Last week the Southern Cal fires surrounded us on three sides before the winds shifted sending it back on itself. The area burnt out near us took a lot of homes, and a massive amount of regional lands.

Now before anyone starts b*tching.....no, I am am not hunting where the homes used to be.

However...the burnt out area includes a couple of sites where the original Pony Express station for San Diego use to be, at least two gold mine sites (with one that stopped production as late as 1940) plus from our geocaching adventures, we've worked out that a great number of trails were hiked over the years.

Now...with all the vegetation gone it's no longer a half day bushwhacking hike to get to these sites, in fact, once the Fire Department give the all clear it could be as little as a 30 minute mountain bike ride.

The question is, have you hunted an area of fire damage and what is the possibility of success?

I'd say it's a good opportunity

I would hunt that level playing field. The fires were horrible, no doubt, but they cleared the brush away, so get that coil on the ground and good luck!
