any ideas how we can convince people to quit removing pop tops from cans and throwing them on the ground?

What is it with people who go to the trouble to detach them from the can and flick them on the ground?

Maybe convince them to become detectorists themselves, THEN they should not want to throw ANY metal trash on the ground

I remember way back when it was macho to crush a can on your forehead. Maybe the todays metrosexuals think wresting off a pop top is the macho thing to do.

Maybe do like some of the NE states do with bottles put a heavy tax on them and let people collect them for bounty.

Let's say 10 cents tax for the can and 5 cents for the pop top. And we could turn them in for a cash bounty of 4 cents for each pop top. That would put a smile on a lot of detectorists faces.

People are slobs... its never gonna stop... I find them from the 60's they have been throwing them away for 60 years

That would be nice, but right now in South Carolina the only way to cash in on aluminum from cans is to sell it as scrap metal, and I just checked online and it says:

Aluminum Cans (dirty) 34 cents a pound

One web site said it takes 32-35 cans to make a pound

and another web site said it takes approximately 1,128 pop tabs to equal one pound

....so your idea would be much better

I've heard people complain the Sta-Tabs touch their lip when they drink so they rip 'em off. Others just like to goof with them while they drink. Kinda like peeling the labels off beer bottles when they drink, like in that Sheryl Crow song.

To me they,re a nuisance so I work them off,but I always put them in my pocket.Rarely do I drink from cans, usually plastic bottles since I don,t drink beer so really not a problem for me.

Going through my mind right now is pulling off a Newman & Kramer scam. They fill up Newman's mail van with cans and cross state lines to redeem for more money. Because here in So.Cal , cans go for $1.75 lb. Maybe I can air freight it for less. South Carolina , here I come 🤣

Show me a comedy TV show that even comes close to Seinfeld. I would love to see a good current day TV comedy like Seinfeld, Two and half me and Big Bang Theory.

I personally don't think they exist.

 transporting cans for more profit ?

Growing up we used to take the tabs off and see who could fling them the furthest. If you position the tab just right, it will stay on your cuticle, and they can really fly! Wish I knew they would eventually become a nuisance

This July I hope to bring a picture back to this thread after 4th of july fireworks from a town that is considered rich... after the fireworks it looks like a landfill with all the garbage and even coolers, beach chairs, blankets you name it... PI JOE found over a hundred dollars in a pizza box must be nice

There’s no way to convince people to stop. I think they’d do it on purpose if you told them to stop because of metal detectorists .

Thank goodness they didn't make cigarette filers out of foil or aluminum strands.

In my area, way more cigarett butts (filters) than pull tabs and pop tops.
They were smart in the fifties, every adult mail had a church key for beer cans and soda drinks were in refundable bottles. Were we smarter back then?

I'm pretty sure that guy said his name was William, but I'm sure he goes by Bill or Billy or Mac or Buddy.
