As many of you old times here at FMDF know, each year my hunting buddy & I have a running contest just to keep it interesting. Each year we see who can find the first of an item, first penny, nickel, dime, ring, button bullet etc., and this year we were stuck with a 1972 as the oldest for several weeks. We just couldn't seem to get past it.

Yesterday I decided that date was going down hard and planned a trip to the city park. Well, my buddy had the same idea and texted me that he was going down after work. We grabbed the E-Tracs and met at the park. Not 20' from our parked cars I hit that sweet sound and knew I had one to beat that 1972, and at the same time, my buddy got his hit not 10' way. After 20 minutes I pulled out a 1941 wheat, but my buddy pulled out a 1917 wheat. Darn it all.

Not 10' from those two we get that sweet sound again. I'm not sure what causes it, but it was one of those times when a pounded rea just starts giving it up like it had never been hunted, as you can see from the shot I took it was a textbook silver dime on the E-Trac but not much more than 8". The first silver of the year comes to light. I documented it in the hole and out.

For those wondering about my very selective pattern, I call it my 10 minute pattern. Pretty much a coin-only pattern and I was there to beat that 1972 and had a very short time. THis pattern will do it.
