Would this be a key for a door? Is there any way to know what it was used for ?

Unfortunately, the part that's broken off would have given us the best clue to what it was for.
Still a find that I'd be happy with.

Assuming that the biting isn’t broken off, it’s too simple for a door key - so I’d guess it’s for a cabinet of some kind

Cool key for sure. Seems like some of it may have broken off (?) but hard to know from this angle. I've only found 2 skeleton keys so they're a very cool find in my eyes. Congrats.

Your key appears to be bronze and though similar in size to many door keys, I agree with RgnFn above, that it's likely a cabinet key.
