I just thought I would take a minute to share my addiction to ocean metal detecting. I have enjoyed it so much I set up a Facebook page: ISLA OCEAN TREASURES where I attempt to reunite wedding rings (with engravings) that I have found over the last 6 years with thier owners. I have over 30 rings posted and I have been able to return 6 so far. To me it seems like the best of both worlds: I get the joy of spending hours every day in my 'office' (the ocean) metal detecting and I get to reunite something the owner thought was gone forever. Over the years I have collected over 500 rings without engravings, earrings, chains, watches that end up in my treasure chest. I also pick up all the trash I find and there is plenty. For many more pictures check out Facebook page: ISLA OCEAN TREASURES.

Good job on finding some of the owners. Curious : What sorts of reactions did you receive ?

The reactions have been great. The first one I was able to had the ring to the man who had lost it the day before in the ocean. Most of the others were sent registered in the mail and all I ask for returning the ring is a picture so I can post it on the Facebook page. The reactions from people curious about what I find is also very positive.

Kudoos to you for this. That is what makes this hobby so great. well done.
I found out very quickly that the rings I find ment a lot to someone and if I can reunite them it means more than just putting them in my 'Treasure Box'. Win-Win

I looked at your FB , looks pretty cool that you got your own ringfinder setup going on. I like how you post the rings with the ID marks blocked out. Some happy returns. How long will you leave them up before you realize they won't be claimed and they go in your treasure chest ? Obviously you live close by , looks like it can get very hot there.

I have a Permanent Visa for Mexico so I can stay forever however I am normally here for 5-7 months each year and yes it can get very hot when you factor on the humidity. As for how long the postings remain on the Facebook page, I haven't removed any of them just in case someone new trips on to the page. All the rings with engravings are stored separately and I have a database built so if I am contacted by someone looking for a lost ring I can respond even if not in the U.S.

WELL DONE!!

There are few things in life as pleasing as placing lost treasures in the hands of their owners!!

Since the 'mid-70's I have returned 50 pieces of jewelry. mostly rings. Living a few blocks from beaches on the Connecticut shore has developed into a well earned reputation of being "the go to guy" for finding lost jewels locally. Some of the tales can be found in my threads from years past.

I agree, I never anticipated the tears of joy when you return an item, you get it. I will search your threads. Great Job!
