I agree with aridice53. It looks like a shoe clip.

The question is, what kind of shoe did it go on, because if it clipped from the top-down the design would be upside down.

The center part looks like a shield, so the pictures are upside down. It would have to clip up to be facing the right direction.

Am I making any sense. lol

If you hadnt shown the back I wouldnt have guessed

It looks like the clasp on a suspender since its hinged and slotted on the back to fit into the recess on a pair of slacks with a hole for the pin to fit through.

Whatever it clipped to must have had a hole in it, since the clip has a pin to keep it from sliding off. Whatever it is, it sure is an interesting find. Congrats.

Looking at it again, it could be a woman's scarf brooch worn mid-neckline, from Edwardian/Victorian era.
