New and chomping at the bit

Welcome from CT. This is one of the best hobbies you can have in your retirement. Plus the wife will thank you for staying out of the house. Ha! Happy Hunting!

Recently retired(war dept,,wife,,)calls it retarded lol. Getting bored. I'm about 20 miles from gulf, bout 60 miles south of Houston. Never handled a detector. So here's my questions, ease of operation, waterproof, beaches and couple riverbeds. I have limited access to some pretty old places and think I could have fun. In ya'lls opinion whats the best route for a newbie? Many thanks
Then you must live pretty close to Galveston or Surfside. If you're joining the Galveston club, there is a little dude named Robert. He will blab all the best places to hunt. He loves to share his stories and what all he has found and WHERE. He's a good dude but likes to talk. He hunts quite often at the main beach I hunt.

I don't know anything about the X-Terra but if I was you, I would look for a used Equinox 800 or a used Legend. I wouldn't try a single frequency on Galveston or Surfside beaches. If you want to DM me and ask me some questions, please do. However, I am not retired so I may not be able to respond quickly. I live on the southside of Houston.
