So finally after three years my dad got around to making a few display cases and man did they come out amazing. They are made of black walnut that we picked up in Pennsylvania three years ago while on a metal detecting trip to a family friends property. My dad actually bought this wood 35 years ago and it had been sitting in a barn for all that time. We loaded it up and at the time I had said what an awesome display case it would make and it was totally worth the wait. He definitely has a lot of hours into these things and thank god he is good with woodworking because I can’t build a birdhouse, that’s why I work with electricity. He made one for me and one for himself. The hardest part was picking out the best stuff to display, it’s kind of like picking your favorite child. I decided to display some bottles on the top but now I think they would look better on some shelves on either side of the case so now we have a new project.

Those are not only nice, but built with love. My dad's hobby was woodworking. He would go to Pecan farmers and buy slabs of Pecan wood from the trees that blew down in local storms or tornados. He retired at 65 and lived to be 92 so he had a long and enjoyable hobby of wood working. I inherited all his craftsman wood working tools. They stayed in my garage for several years unused. In the late 80's we got permission to dig/pan for gold on an original 40 acre gold plot in North GA near Dahlonega, GA. It had two streams, two actual gold mines and we always found small amounts of gold on the weekends that my sons and I panned. The owner's son was making a living building bird houses for the state government to put in state parks. I gave him all the wood working tools because they were not being used and taking up a lot of space in my garage and I had almost a weekly reminder from my wife to get rid of them. I priced out those tools, and man do craftsman woodworking tools hold their value.

That is very cool. I’ve always had an appreciation for woodworking but it definitely passed me by. That’s really cool that those tools ended up with someone that really appreciates them

:wow: those are amazing looking -- and will keep your finds (which also look amazing) well lighted and dust free! I put stuff on my bookshelf and I'm way overdue for cleaning it up, it's all dusty and dirty. Very very nice.
