So my dad and I went out this morning to hit up a nearby corn field before that had been recently turned over. Were hoping it still hadn't been planted, and we were in luck (and the weather couldn't have been more perfect!).

Roamed around for a bit, when eventually I got my first really solid signal. Scooped one shovel full of dirt and out came an 1839 large cent! I couldn't even believe it. Haven't had much luck in the coin department so far, so when I picked it up, I thought it was too good to be true. I also laughed, because I haven't even found my first Wheatie yet! Guess it was just my lucky day. Definitely did the happy dance, for sure.

Found a couple of little buttons as well, but not nearly as exciting as the coin. And, after a few hours, some people showed up and started putting down seeds with a tractor, so we had to take off. If we had waited one more day to go, I would have been out of luck! Phew! Happy day.

My hunting partner dug the "find of the day", but I enjoyed it as much as she did. I can tell you first hand that it's a very nice coin!

Welcome to the forum. What a great coin to have for your first old one. Just don't get spoiled. It will be hard to beat that one. It sure looks like it is in great shape for a dug coin. Congratulations!!
