We almost all hear about the latest and greatest. How they perform, how great they are and are not depending on which brand someone is loyal too or prefer. But what about the guy getting started that don't want to throw $300+ out there.

The problem is, there has to be good ones out there, but some one grabs an Amazon/Ebay/AliBaba bluelight special and it's terrible and they quit before they find out what detecting can be.

Lets leave the big boys out. What are some of the most underrated detectors out there? I don't mean underperforming, I mean units that actually do pretty good that just don't hardly get any recognition. Information is out there but it's scattered and like trying to find silver in a trashy park.

What's your experience? What have you owned/used that when you look back, you go, that was actually a good little unit.? I know we've all had some dates your were ashamed of and don't want anyone to know, but what supprised you? With metal detectors that is.

Here's a few names to throw out and try not to pinch your nose. Any experience? These are names I've seen and wondered about.

Fishers, I had the F22. Great little unit but frustrated me in EMI or trashy area's

So far I'm liking the bounty hunter 3300 I got for Christmas. It's a nice entry level detector, and light enough to swing for hours.
That was my first detector. Yes, it is very light. And it has ground balance, pinpoint, notching, discrimination and a nice feature called ZAP. Wish more detectors had that. Instantly knocks out whatever is bothering, pull tabs, bottle cap, etc.

I've got to say I was pretty impressed, and surprised, by the Bounty Hunter Tracker IV. A friend bought one without asking for help. When I first saw it I thought OH crap! but I acted like everything was just fine and we took it out to the park. I was very surprised at how well it did in both depth & target ID.

Beep AND A LOT OF DIGGING. Just saying, as an old detectorist. The Fisher 1200 series was my older brothers choice metal detector, before I ever got into the detecting hobby. Digging for a lost gold ring in 5 acres, simply forget about it. JM2C

Fisher f70 with sniper coil is a great bang for buck MD.

A used but not abused Equinix 600 will find 90%+ what's in the ground and a legendary buy if you can grab it at $300'ish.

I dont have experience with any older, beep n dig detectors.

My first detector was a Bounty hunter tk4. I found my first gold ring with it. No VDI. strictly beep and dig but that was almost a blessing in disguise. It made it impossible to talk your self out of digging targets. High tones were coins. Low tones were nickels, gold or pull tabs lol. I liked the Fisher F22 a lot. The only other one I never see on here that was pretty good to get started with was a Telnetiks Delta 4000. Sniffed out a barber dime in an old trashy park.
