I wouldn’t want any of you to think that I’ve been slacking down here in my nice sunny and beautiful weather while you all have been enjoying your snow shoveling so here are my last 3 hunts…
1/21/24: Took NuBlu out for a 4-hour spin. Targets were few. I had a hard time retrieving what I thought was a can in a rocky area. It turned out to be an iPhone 13 Pro that I am sure had been lost for a while and I am also sure that I managed to mangle it some more with my scoop. Normally I am careful in my retrievals. This taught me a lesson.
1/28/24: Again with NuBlu for a 4.5-hour spin. Instead of starting in my usual spot, I saw an area not 50 yards further south that looked a bit more scalloped than the previous week, so I walked over and started there. In my first swings, and less than 10 seconds, I had scooped up an iPhone 13! I put it in my pocket and continued my hunt. This was another low target hunt. The gold looking earring I thought was real at the time. It wasn’t until I got to car and looked at under a jeweler’s loupe did, I see it was junk. What was interesting is that the phone that I had found still had some charge and the phone's wallpaper screen popped up. At home, I rinsed the phone and let it dry a bit. I then put it on the charging pad and within a little bit of time it was on. I checked to see if there was any of the owner’s information that I could retrieve from the “Medical ID” but it had not been filled out.
Fortunately for the phone owner, he had gotten a message that showed despite the lock screen from a Kansas “316” area code. I texted that individual, (who turned out to be named Mike), and told him that I had found a phone that he had texted “Make it on the boat” to that individual. He said it belonged to Braden and he had gone on a cruise. He texted Braden’s girlfriend and let him know I had his phone to return upon his return from the cruise.
2/3/24: I was out before sunrise today. I hunted for 5 hours with NuBlu again. What was interesting is the best area that I hunted turned out to be where I had started. 90% of the coins and the 2 junk rings that came early were from there. The rest of the hunt had sporadic targets. (I would see a few other out there working the water as well). The silver ring came as I was nearing the end of my hunt. The shocking Kennedy half was also at the end but in the area that I started. (This is either my 2nd or 3rd Kennedy half ever!) I really worked this area over repeatedly - both in the beginning, and again at the end, but the gold just wasn’t there. When I got to my car, I saw I had a missed call from a Kansas “316” area code. I knew it was Braden who had just returned from his cruise. I called and it was his girlfriend, Mykaela who had gone on the cruise with him. I gave them my address and they came over to pick up the phone. I asked him about the phone and he told me it must’ve slipped out of his pocket as he was sitting near the shore Saturday night. He was very appreciative, and I was glad I was able to get it back to him. Tonight they fly back to Kansas.
