A week ago Friday KT purchased enough cut & split firewood to refill the Royal Wood Racks from what was emptied out last winter! Parked the Royal trailer in the back yard and got plenty of exercise Taking cartloads of firewood from the trailer to the racks and stacking it. About 20 cartloads later…this afternoon….KT has it all stacked and under cover. It is not for this coming winter but for 24-25 winter! Will post pictures tomorrow as to what it looks like! Managed to get it all done before it rained! Ha ha.

:oldguy::oldguy::oldguy: I do that in my sleep ... then I wake up and rejoice that I really didn't ...:dancing:

There's a good feeling about having firewood seasoning for winter, Mrs. GroundSweeper and myself went out into the National Forest earlier in the year (with wood cutting permit) and after a few very physical weekends had replenished our firewood stores. All hand cut (MS271) and hand split (Fiskers Super Splitting ax) and hand stacked. We still had a bit left over from last winter (just under a cord) figure we're sitting at just under 3 cords of black oak with a little incense-cedar thrown in from winter breakages. I still have two tags left, so hope to be able to get a couple more truckloads once fire danger is comfortably over and before winter sets in.

Good work KT, look forward to the pics, and all too well know the affects on the body!

Here are the pictures! KT hopes His Royal Viewers can realize how many hours this took Olde KingTotsalot! HA HA. All but the last picture are either under the eve or on the back porch of the Royal Castle! Those racks that are on the outside edge of the porch eve are covered to prevent rain splash and blowing rain from wetting them. The last picture is of the outside rack under the eve of the Castle at the SW corner.

Enjoy the pictures, KT is enjoying that this is done! HA HA.

Thank you, GroundSweeper! And yes, KT used to do all that, but His Majesty has both knee problems and lower back which prevents Him from being his own Firewood gatherer. But other people in the Royal Kingdom keep busy doing that and KT is happy to pay them for their efforts at this stage! And even when buying wood it is cheaper than the Castle's electric central heat in the dead of winter! KT recently investigated having a propane tank installed and a gas heater, wall mounted, installed in the Royal Dungeon and Royal Man Cave area, but the cost of propane is obscenely higher than a couple of cords of firewood, cut and split! So the Royal Wood heater will be in use for the foreseeable future!

Understand fully KT. Told wife when I can’t hand split wood I’ll get a splitter. This year I had to split some rounds in the woods in order to be able to carry them out to the truck. Will do it while I can and then, buy it. I have a 280 gal propane tank and that can get expensive fast! Plus when snow knocks the power out, wood stove is it and very welcome.

A few years back KT was splitting some rounds on the Castle grounds when, POP went something in His Royal left leg! The next morning KT could not bend His left leg. Trip to the Dr., and an MRI later, Dr. Told His Majesty that both the interior and exterior meniscus were torn, and no way to repair it, so KT had a cortisone shot in the upper left calf and still suffers with it during weather changes. Two weeks later KT purchased an electric 5 ton splitter and a 10 ton manual splitter, both from Harbor Freight. That was some 15 years ago and they are still working fine. Use the 10 ton to split in half and sometimes quarters those big rounds so His Majesty can lift the pieces to get into the electric splitter, and it does the rest!

And yes, for piece of mind, nothing beats the knowledge that we can cope with a significant power outage. Yesterday KT was at the large Kroger store in Benton, and went through and picked up significant canned protein for the Royal Larder, with a number of Kippered Herring cans, pink canned and packs of Salmon, and numerous cans of sardines, lightly smoked and tasty! Not only are these long term storage items but KT loves all of them as a part of a light meal. And KT often craves Kippered Herring with rat cheese and saltines as snacks….a throwback to my childhood days with my father! We always had that combination for lunch when on fishing and hunting trips. Ahh, those were good days with family.

Firewood!! There goes the climate change and Co2 increase! Joking, I would burn firewood if my house had a fireplace.
Maybe when I move out of California to a better state.

Yes, move to a state which does not govern wood stove installation and their emissions! IE, is not over reaching!

We would welcome you to Arkansas where those things are not a problem!
