It's time to bring Sophie back...(Detectorists fans please step in.)

How am I ever going to send Mackenzie Crook a link to this thread, unless the detectorists of the FMDF come up with some good Series 4 plot ideas?! ;)

We still need a good plot twist, so c'mon folks, whatcha got! :D

Another thing that was left open-ended, was Lance's possible game show appearance. Does he win another big chunk of money like his Lottery win? Does he lose on the final question by answering a very easy question incorrectly? :jawdrop:

750 views and not a single plot idea? Not one? :?: There has to be some Detectorists fans here on the FMDF with ideas!

If you haven't watched the Series in awhile, watch it again! :D

Loved the show. Watched the series 3 times. Unfortunately I don't think they are gonna do anymore episodes no matter what we post on here. Hopefully they do but it more than likely wouldn't be near as good. Besides whatever we post wouldn't matter unless they know about the FMDF which i highly doubt. Good luck!

This thread is for fun and I post in jest. That said, Mackenzie Crook is a detectorist and we have many members from the UK, so there’s a certain degree of probability that he may lurk here on occasion.

So, since you’ve watched the Series three times and you’ve read this thread, how about having a little fun and suggesting a plot idea for a hypothetical Series 4! [emoji846]

Also, Detectorists was very popular, had excellent ratings and won a handful of awards. All it would take for a Series 4 to become a reality, would be for Crook’s creative well to run dry or have his other projects receive poor ratings. It happens frequently and if you watch the commentary on the DVDs, all the show’s actors loved doing the show.

I think I saw the first 2 seasons...it was entertaining enough I suppose. I almost gave up on it on the very first? episode when a college girl approaches one of them and is very interested in what he's doing. Yeah. Right. That happens all the time.

New episode ideas are all over this forum...how about crazy cat ladies yelling at curb strip hunters. Spending hours looking for a lost ring only to have the owner find it behind the hairspray on the bathroom counter... finding a gun and coffin like box in the back yard...

IMO what made the series great was the scenery and the drama. There was the main pursuit of antiquities but at times the detecting was a back story to finding what really matters in life, and how we “search” for things like true love, friends, good times etc only to realize the true treasures all around us are (People). At least that’s what I enjoyed about the show.

These could certainly be ideas for Russell and Hugh's recovery service.

The college girl(Sophie) was spying on them for the Antiqui-Searchers. It's a fictional TV show, not a documentary.

In the cast commentary, on the DVDs, the reason most of actors cite for loving doing the show, was getting to work at those locations.

The Brits can act and some of the character acting was outstanding. Characters like Larry, Phil and Sheila, for instance, are not easy to pull off as believable.

While renovating the "new" cottage, Andy finds a little down time and decides to detect the property where he finds a small wooden box (metal hinge and latch). Inside He finds a letter about about where a previous owner had buried his gold for safekeeping but not all of the letter was readable after being in the ground for over 100 years. He enlists the DMDC to help find and follow the buried clues.

The members of the Danebury Metal Detecting Club report their gold coin cache to the local coroner's office. They deem it to be a treasure hoard and pay the members 50,000 pounds each. Not enough to retire on, but enough to improve their quality of life.

Their new found fame gives the DMDC a huge boost to their membership numbers. New characters are brought in and they are just as quirky and odd as the original members. They now have a long list of properties to detect, since everyone respects their metal detecting skills and hopes they find treasure to make them rich as well.

Sophie dates a couple of the new detectorists, but eventually finds love with a lonely widower who lost his wife during childbirth. She gets him hooked on the hobby and he joins the group.

They never find another treasure hoard, but they all live a peaceful life doing what they enjoy most in life, metal detecting with their friends. The end.

Okay, now we're talking, I like it!

But, Sophie would have to be there visiting when Andy finds the box and her Ancient History expertise would help lend some insight into the search for the treasure. Sophie needs to come back to the show, her absence from Series 3 left a void.

I read your first sentence in Phil's voice!

I’ve been trying to think of a way that Larry could fit into a new Series and Tim’s post gave me the idea of the possibility of Larry joining the club. His invisible dogs could join the club too. [emoji23] His craziness was a highlight in Series 3.

We still need a Scooby-Doo style plot twist. [emoji3]

I bought the set and watched it through a couple of times. I love it! Unfortunately I lent out season #1 to a fellow detectorist who I thought would get a kick out of the show. Instead he never watched it, lost the disks, and doesn't recall me ever giving them to him. I now just have seasons two and three to rehash. Its not the same as watching the complete series.....ugh!

What a scoundrel! Never mess with a man’s dog, or his Detectorists DVDs. [emoji35]

Here’s a Series 1 auction, with free shipping, on eBay. Throw a $7.50 maximum bid on it and maybe you can replace your missing DVDs for a decent price.

Detectorists is not forgotten! [emoji846]

Brand new article from The Guardian.

So, c’mon folks, keep those plot ideas pouring in! A few more ideas, and a plot twist or two, and I will find a way to get the link to this thread and our humble FMDF to fellow detectorist Mackenzie Crook. Who knows, a brief mention of the FMDF in Series 4 is not out of the realm of possibility! [emoji3]

While detecting a large field , Lance and Andy are abducted by Space Aliens in a UFO . The Aliens interrogate them for several days to get an idea about what Earth people are all about . After finding out , the Aliens have extreme pity on us as a species and decide there is "nothing here to see " . In gratitude for the information given to them , the boys are given Two detectors designed for them by the Aliens .

These are Magical detectors ,so accurate and so deep that they can tell the difference between gold and aluminum at depths up to six feet . No batteries or charging needed as they run oxygen drawn from the air by a watch sized , silent pump .

Lance and Andy decide not to share this knowledge with anyone .

Word soon gets out though that these two Brits are getting astoundingly rich and no one knows how .

The worlds richest bankers decide to kidnap them and find out what their mysterious source of income is .

OK , County Worker how's that for a start ?

I like it! The first thing that I thought of was when Quentin Tarantino had so much success with his first few films and then he went to the studios and told them that he wanted to make a Kung Fu type movie and they couldn't tell him no. Crook has had similar success, on a smaller scale, so Acorn and the BBC would probably green light him on your idea.

Your idea is a plot, not a plot twist and since we want to bring Sophie back after her absence from Series 3, I have the perfect plot twist for your plot.

Hold onto your hats everyone...Sophie has been an alien all along! And she set the boys up to be kidnapped, because she wants to stay on Earth and she wanted the boys to get those detectors, so she could get rich too!
