So I was trying to sell silver ring on Craigslist. I got a text from someone claiming I needed to prove it was me by sending them a 6 digit google code? Hmm? I guess that's no biggie? So I did, twice? I thought hmm this is fishy after the third try I said bye.
Turns out this person probably got my phone number to scam other people!
I think I will ask my phone company if it's fixable.
I tried following directions online about this but it wasn't right.
I learned to never give out 6 digit codes.

Craigslist is a cesspool of evil people. I've bought 2 detectors off of CL, sold a bunch of duplicate tools. Never ever have them come to your house. But I've learned to meet in a safe place and carry if it's a big ticket item.

Amen to that me brodda. You have to take every precaution you can to stay safe. Only once did someone come to my home but I had the thing I was selling outside on the driveway and away from the house. Usually it is a road trip to a public place. Good advice Mark. :waytogo:

’Safe place’ is a good recommendation, we have a police station near that is video-monitored for such purpose. The problem I’ve had are the large amount of no-shows. Hmmmnnn.

Don't get me wrong, Craigslist has saved me $$$$$. 1st metal detector, CL. Bastard. Here I am typing when I should be swinging the legend. Made some folks happy with what I've sold because I ask a reasonable price.

Not even sure what the 6 digit code thing is but I figured out long ago to instantly cut off any dialog with anyone that asks for it. Best luck I have on CG is leaving my number in the ad, I'll put zero instead of 0 to foil some bots, then I only asnswer numbers from local area codes ,, Occasionally those are scams too but its pretty rare, I have more scam attempts on facebook marketplace than craigslist, but thats probably because there is a larger crowd on FB

A friend just told me the other day that he went to meet to buy an item in a town nearby. He said he was meeting the guy in a public space. When he got there the guy didn't show. So, he called the guy. The guy said, Oh I can't find anyone to watch my daughter, you can just stop buy my house. He told me he thought that was really odd so he drove by the address just to see. He said the area was NOT a good area and when he drove buy the address there was about 30 people on a very large porch. He said I was thinking to myself "Not today boys" and drove right on by and went home. I said that was a smart move.

To prove who you are? Craigslist is anonymous and you shouldn’t be using anything other than Craigslist email for communication.

I live in a small coastal community now, so I will communicate using my phone, if necessary, but not until I exchange a few emails. When I lived in Stockton, I only communicated through Craigslist email, I only met at a location of my choosing and never went to a meeting alone.
