A local detecting friend and I headed north to Missoula Montana to try an afternoon and evening of detecting. Our first try was at a public University area, with permission from head of groundskeeping. There was a lot of clad, my friend (uses Nox 800) found a nice plain Sterling Silver ring and a very cool POLSON, MONT. trade token, I got a full date 1936 Buffalo Nickel and one Wheat Cent, but that was it.

We decided to do some door knocking, and I managed to get us permission at a late 1940s home. This yard produced some wheat cents for my friend, and fortunately my side of the yard had a 1954 Silver Rosie, a 1950 Silver Washington, and a really neat Sterling Silver beer stein charm! Also got a few wheat cents. My friend got a permission a couple of homes down, and pulled a Silver Rosie, while I found a few Wheaties and modern clad.

We took a break for ice cream, then decided to try one more yard before getting home before dark. This home was set way back along the alley, so had nice large front yard. The hunting started out slowly with just modern copper cents and clad. The first good coin was a Merc Dime found by my friend. Near the home, I got a screaming 92-93 on the AT Pro, and was delighted to see a honking Silver Ring, tucked it into my pocket, and finished the rest of the yard. Getting to the car, I washed it and found I had found a Sterling UNITED STATES ARMY ring with beautiful red center stone! This puppy feels like it weighs at least a half an ounce. Anyway, we both got some nice finds and enjoyed a beautiful day, thanks for your interest!

That is a honking huge ring there! The beer stein is quite the unique find as well, congrats!

Dude you killed it for sure, definitely some keepers.

Thank you Mark, the day started a bit slowly but definitely improved!
Lots of cool finds there, grats! I really like the little beer stein charm!
Thank you Sorthious! It is unusual for sure.

Thank you D4C!
Honk Honk !
Thanks Tom!
Any date or name on the monster?
No name or date on inside of ring, just "PRIDE / STERLING."
WOW what a ring !! :jawdrop::workforgold::wow2::thumbsup:
Thank you too_pointer, it was sure fun to find!

Big congrats on the honker silver and the rest of the recoveries. The ring looks like it has seen some heavy wear. Glad you've been able to get back up to Missoula for some detecting. You still haven't lost the touch when it comes to getting on those productive permissions.

That is one huge hunk of Sterling David. From the story details, you and your buddy had a great time sharing the experiences of the hunt. I am sure that you two will be doing it again. Congrats on the finds and the great times. Trapper

Thanks Trapper! Yeah...probably the largest and heaviest Sterling ring I've found - great to see that in the dirt! We hope to be going back to Missoula next week, as rain is forecast for the rest of this week and weekend.
David, congrats on the silver coins, and especially on that big silver ring! That is epic find for sure! :woot:
Thank you Wolf-Dog! Much appreciated!
