How do you dig for coins

I use a treasure wise 3 in 1 digger & a brass probe I made that from a 1/4 in brass rod with a chainsaw file handle for the handle. Probe first then dig! if you hear it tick or hit what you think is a coin dig very carefully around it. Make your ground cut horseshoe shaped leave it hinged to the sod & you'll very rarely leave a dead spot & your brass probe will never scratch silver :tumble: Happy hunting

yo E....plugs

From the land of the Bluenose...even after 34 years at this hoby still don't use the screwdriver way. Like the plug so as not to damage the find. If doing a manicured lawn be careful and carry a drop cloth. Happy hunting!

If the coin is just a couple of inches down I can tap it with the tip of my knife and then pop it out of the ground. If it's deeper or I can't find it with the knife, I just cut a flap and pinpoint and close it right back up. Either way it's neat and you'd never know I was there.

We all have a favorite

way of locating and extracting the find. I use mostly a free tool Tony gave me. It is called a "Sabre tooth" Inexpensive, probably chinese made, but indestructible. It has a rounded 9 to 10 inch blade, formed in a semi-circle.

I pinpoint, except the depth the dfx gives me at say 5 inches. I place the tip an inch behind the pinpoint and push the blade in 4 inches. Then rock back and forth to form a 1 1/2 in. hole. Remove blade and send the probe in to exact the location of the coin, then weedle it out without damage. Thumb the hole closed, and you have very little root damage to the grass......Just my way...Gil.........
