I found the old badge in a neighborhood dating back to the 1890’s right next to the Detroit river. I can’t find anything online to ID it. It’s pretty thin and looks to be copper, had a pin welded on the back but is missing. It’s about 1 1/4 inches top to bottom and 1 inch at the top. Any guesses would be appreciated

Looks very cool, I couldn't get a match with google lens so I can't help/ For sure it has some nautical military police look to it. Are you located near Detroit?

Welcome to the forum Mike great to have you here. Like Mark said, I couldn't find anything either. Probably an auxiliary water safety patrol badge. Cool find. :waytogo:

Ferndale, any ID yet?

None yet, I found it a while ago and just cleaned it up so I could use google lens on it, with no results. Check out my day saver for a plowed down farm that existed on an 1860 map. The coolest part other than it being a big chunk of gold is that the name engraved on the back matches the name on the property from 1860.

Son of a gun you got a freaking beauty there, how in the world did that time piece come out of the ground so flipping clean? Good for you, I mean that is such a find. I would think by the looks of that watch you could wind it up and hear it tick.... SAF!! Try to find the owner, that would be a cool return?

I found her gravestone, she died in 1868. It wasn’t that clean but you could definitely tell it was gold or gold plated right out of the ground. I took it to a jeweler to try and get it tested for purity, they said they don’t test but he said he would clean it up a bit for me. There were a couple of scratches so he could tell it wasn’t plated. It’s sealed shut from the corrosion from the internal parts. I’d rather keep it in one piece rather than crack it open for the makers mark.
