Help identifying this artillery shell. And why was it in my front yard?

I live in the San Francisco Bay Area. About 20 miles east of San Francisco. The closest military base is about 15 miles away. And i'm 20 miles from any ocean water. I was metal detecting my front yard earlier today in some thick bushes that i had never hunted before. I got a signal of a large object. I brushed off the leaves and some of the soft top soil and the edge of this shell was poking out of the ground. I pulled it out with my hand. No shovel was necessary.

Any help identifying the exact type of shell it is would be greatly appreciated. I've done lots of google searching, and found shells that looked very similar, but was unable to find a shell that matched this exact one.

I'm a bit confused why it was there and how it got there, so if you have any insight on that i would appreciate it too. I live in a house that was built around 1910.

Thank you.

Maybe at one time he had it standing up like a very strange garden ornament. I bet if you stand it up out there now they'll clear the neighborhood.

Looks like it came from a Very Large caliber ELEPHANT GUN..

the tip looks very intact. On soft and muddy terrains it means it just could dig in intact... the other option is the part was simply left there. Here in Europe most ordinance is still live due to the ground was too soft and the detonator couldnt be triggered or the angle of fire was bad so it just ''bounsed''...
