There's a woodlot about 2 miles from my house that once had an old school house sitting on it (mid/late 1800s into first half of the 1900s) where I've been trying, unsuccessfully, for a couple years to get permission to detect. The owners live in Alaska (I'm in the middle of Michigan), but have ties to the area...which is why they bought the land to begin with. Well, I checked my Fetch/GIS webpage a couple weeks ago and found that there is a new owner...a guy that actually lives adjacent to the property I'm looking at. I stopped by early last week and spoke with him. He said his grandfather actually went to that school and was part owner of the property as well, and that'd he'd have to check with him first, but that he was OK with it, and was curious as to what I might find. He spoke with his grandfather and lucky for me, his grandfather is happy to let me take a look, but I have to wait until the end of the month cuz friends and family members are currently using the property for turkey hunting, but that I'm good to go once the season ends. I'm itching to get going, but since I've waited this long, I guess another couple weeks won't be so bad.

Congrats on you well earned permission. I am trying to find a ihp at all the old school sites around my home. I’ve hit four so far and found relics and IHPs at two of them.
