Just got new permission and I’m planning on searching it Monday. 19th century home built on half the property from an 18th century church. Lady saw me detecting a nearby park while walking her dogs and asked me what I was doing.

I have a farm on an old ferry road that he says I can search once he’s bush hogged it. He saw me searching a park that he manages. Turns out we were both Marines annd knew each other from Scouts.

And I’ve asked for permission at a large campus for special needs kids, it’s the property surrounding an old mansion on an old farm. I think early 19th century. No direct contact there. I reached out to the school and they forwarded the request to the foundation that owns the property.

That's cool. What part of Va. are you in? I'm in Hanover Co. Are you a motorcycle or bicycle rider? Or both? 😆. I ride a Sportster. Good luck on your new permission.
Loudoun County - mountain bikes! I have a nice Giant Trance 2 full suspension and an electric cannondale Neo5 full suspension. I used to road bike, but I got sick of drivers trying to kill me all the time.
It was the mountain biking that got me into detecting. Sometimes I backpack a detector while riding. I'll quickly search an area along a creek or river, or stop and ask a landowner for permission to search along the road (typically a gravel road).

Sounds like a very desirable hunting spot. Hope it pans out for you to detect it. GL&HH
I just received permission to search a historic mansions property. Colonial farm, current mansion, built in 1872. 16 acres listed on the National Historic Register. This is the campus housing the school I described above.

Those sound like some fantastic locations, best of luck. Also, hello to a fellow mtn biker!! If you ever find yourself in the middle of Michigan with either your mtn bike or your detector (or both), give me a shout and we can go rip "The Dragon" on our bikes, then detect some local spots. :)

I also use a bike to get to more-remote spots to detect and look for bottle dumps. Currently using a Giant Roam-E electric and it is really working out for me!
