So I grab my new Delta 4000 and after a few days of hunting in Ohio, I zoom up to my sweet little cabin in Central Michigan. It is set nicely on a little 80 acre peaceful lake, only a few other cabins around. I am not sure about the history of this area, and since it is a fairly remote area (mostly state land for recreation) I was not too sure if I would find any old coins. My first dig, I planned on heading to the beach section of the lake, but before that I just swept the coil around the beach front in front of my cabin. My first signal looked surprisingly good, so i quick drew my trowel from my holster and dropped to dig.
Pulled out 3 Mercury Dimes 1917 - 1918 - 1919 All mint marked W

continued hunting. anbout 10 M down the beach, another good signal. I dug and found
2 Mercury Dimes and 2 Barber Dimes
Barbers - 1901 - 1911
Mercs 1917 - 1917

Cool merc spill. The "W" is not the mintmark. Go to the reverse of the coin. At the bottom base to the lower left is where a mintmark would go. Either "D", "S", or nothing.:D

:wow::wow::wow::wow:

Nice hunt! I really enjoyed my 4000. Great little machine for the $s!

Congrats to ya!

Correct! Your mintmarkS are on the back of the coin. Lower left "7 o'clock" position.

Yep I found it! Wow it's small.

But the great looking 1919 is a D :) :)
the 1918 is also a D
and the 1917 is an S
the rest are none.

my plan was to sell lots of my finds to pay for my detector but... I develop an emotional love for all my finds :p
Has anyone had luck selling dimes? is there a market for them besides silver value?

Unless you find a key date coin most just go for melt value,here's a link on the current price for silver coin melt value, hope you find more to add to your totals, you've got $10.22 so far :grin:www.coinflation.com/silver_coin_values.html
