Finially an 1800's coin

Walter,

Congrats on the old finds. Not only is the 1865 IHP in beautiful condition, the fact that you have a full LIBERTY probably means the coin was dropped either the year it was minted or shortly afterwards. You probably have a great shot at some dates from the 1860s and 1870s from that site. Good luck!

Killer Find!!! Beautiful coin.
Hunt that place hard. I agree with the overall statements here. Best looking, highest grade of that age of a coin I may have ever seen. Looks dropped the day it was made.
I'd hit that property and any other in the area I could, over and over again.
I'd mark that as one of the great finds of the year! Congrats!

Again thinks everyone. It is in great condition and was put into a coin holder.
Also I am glad I did not try to see what is was when dug. It came out of the ground and from the size and feel I though penny and probably an IH so it went into my pocket. First picture shows what it looked like dug. If I had rubbed it enough to ID then it would definitely gotten scratched.

That the 6th time I've been to that site (spend 2-4 hours each time) and the finds are rare but incredible. I will be hitting it all summer since I have only cover a small part so far.

Other great finds from there are:
King George half penny 1723.
Colonial brass shoe buckle
1808 style shoulder belt plate (war of 1812)
1919 & 1916 Buffalo nickles, 1901 IHP
silver colored brass Bell
part of a colonial 2-prong iron fork
lots of other interesting bit and bobs.

Check my thread on this site as I update with picture of new finds including all the iron.

There are several old farm houses in the area. My wife does know the owner of one and will be asking for permission to detect. However this one site will keep me busy this year.
