today while hunting a tot lot i was detecting a mulch pit where all the play equipment is and i got a signal that sounded either small or deep,i kicked the top layer of mulch away and went back over it and noticed somthing kinda white in the mulch so i kicked it to the side and seen it was a syringe, kinda freaked me out,i didnt know if i should call for someone or what, after a bit of thinking on what i should do i dumped out my pop bottle and placed the syringe inside of it{picked it up with my glove} and threw it along with the glove in the trash{no tellin what that thing had on it}. have any of you found anything of the sort in a tot lot or anywhere for that matter that could be harmful? other than the razor sharp can slaw and other metal pieces ive found i think that needle posed the most danger. also what would be the best thing to do if i ever run across somthing like that again?

Yep, been there, done that, got the T-shirt. I've also found razor blades, crack pipes, knives, and unfired ammo in tot lots. Pretty sick, huh?

Well I agree with Bentfork - all that stuff dug also. A couple hypo needles also. I get rid of them as you did.

And on this point I want to say "DO YOU ALL HAVE YOUR TETNUS SHOTS UP TO DATE????"

I sure am glad I do as 2 months ago I cut my finger on a sliced coke can about 4 inches down. Bled like a stuck pig. Fortunately, I carry band aids in the truck so I could keep on detecting. Sure was a lot of blood on the ground beforeI got it plugged up.
Steve in so az

Luckily, I haven't found any needles yet. But I did find lots of large hunks of broken glass in a tot-lot. Think I got it all cleaned-up. The sicko had placed it at the bottom of the slides. Strange part was it was 3 inches deep and had been there a long time.

Wear gloves. They might not keep you from getting stuck with a needle, but they are tougher than your skin. Also remember that the ground is full of micro-organizims. If you get cut, clean it as soon as you can. Drug resistant organizims are on the rise.

people are just plain stupid to be doin that sort of stuff where kids play,i can sorta understand pieces of can and what not that may have been hit by a mower but needles and razor blades!!!!! sheeeeshh come on!!! im going to make it a every sunday thing to detect the playground at the school my daughter goes to,id hate to get a call sayin my little girl was hurt on a discarded razor blade while playin on the slide during recess...its just plain scary to think some poor kid could get hurt on somthing that shouldnt be there in the first place.
also i agree with billiard rich about the gloves,im always cuttin my gloves up by reachin in a hole and finding broken glass, better my glove than my hand, the gloves i wear are carpenter gloves with the index and thumb fingers cut out, reached in a hole the other day and somthing cut me from the base of my finger nail down to my knuckle, barely got it to stop bleeding...never could find what cut me. seems every hobby has some danger to it.

I have the city park/tot lot out my back door and my son is out there everyday. It's something I always think about and when I see people that shouldn't be out there, I watch them from portch to make sure they arn't causing any issues. I have called the police when I've seen teens out there hiding in the little buildings and I smell that oh so obviouse smell of pot.
I believe needles, razor blades, nails/screws and even scissors is the main reason why you can't find ball pits in the play areas at fast food places anymore. There are some people out there that have nothing else to do, but find humar in hurting kids... Sickening.
