i found a doable patch of green on a steep hill side at the town park that has coughed up many old coins for me in the past.....
I wasn't expecting much . I remember climbing down this hill a couple years ago and just dug a few claddies......and that was some really tough swinging.....hill side with shrubs and vines growing all over it......Even worse on this day as it was raining lightly and about 40.......
Was starting to feel the frustration again after an hour of scaling the steep hill....Suddenly a nice sweet high tone caught my ears.....I swung over it again a few times and thought , probably a clad dime, but I'd be pretty stoked with a silver rosie at this point.....I started digging and cutting roots and to my surprise saw a shallow silver (5-6" ) but it looked dull......I bent down and grabbed it and gave her a little swipe and saw the base of a seated dime..... :shock: ....
Its not a super old one or in great shape what so ever , but I was super happy when I saw a mint mark on the back. I just don't seem to dig too many old coins with mints up here .
Anyway......there was that one yesterday and i tacked on a rosie today and thats 12 dimes for the year. I guess I really cant complain. I say this every year , but I really was not expecting to dig any silvers what so ever this year and at this point I really have no idea where I would hunt next......
I did try for a couple more permissions today and got 2 big fat NOs ........" I have a metal detector myself , If anyones gonna do it its gonna be me"

Congrats on the seated dime! I dug the same exact 1891 last week and was thrilled about it. It's tough to find anything seated these days. Also good work coming up with a new spot to detect. Hills seem to be productive for me as well.

Big congrats on the seated. As it was stated these coins are becoming harder to find. Well done.

Very nice as always Bob! I like that you included the reality that hunters like us live with…”shallow silver 5-6” deep”…some couldn’t begin to realize how deep we go on a very regular basis! The guys who hunt coins in the 7”+ range are just doing something different out of sheer necessity, finding one at 5-6” deep is a real surprise for me. Seated is even better, that one looks pretty good! Nice to see you’re hammering them out, it takes some work!

Okay, can we please, please, please start a forum for those of us who live west of the Mississippi, where we don't find largies and 1800's silvers every hunt? It's getting really discouraging seeing all this Eastern treasure and knowing that you'll have to settle for a few wheats and the occasional Merc. Maybe a "Losers Forum". Or at least, maybe we could tag these threads with "Westerners Don't Look Here".

Okay, JK, that's a pretty awesome find Bob. Thanks for sharing.  A-hole. Oops, more bitterness showing.

That's awesome my last seated was a quarter. Walked around for 2 hrs before I looked again and realized what it was. It was really really worn
