Cellar hole hunt*civil war eagle buckle?

Had to comment on this one before hittin' the hay. That is a fantastic find and one nice looking buckle ! Doesn't look like you hurt it much either. Excellent job digging thru the iron and congrats !

go for it dude! get out while you can!
this may be a virgin hole we found?way too many big targets at this site.if it was hit before they did a lousy job! anyways...no george is in second place with 33 coppers, del is in first with 35 and me i'm in third place with 31.not much time left until jan 1st when contest ends.i don't see me getting out that much in the next 2 weeks so...i guess i'll finish in last place:no:

Yeah, last place at only 31 large coppers is truly a crying shame!!

If I found one of those coppers I would probably throw it in the junk, not knowing what it was...

Awesome buckle.

I love reading your posts. Your finds are much more like pirate booty than my zincolns and trash!!

Nice going Dave, Beautiful buckle! One more thing, Stop crying about the 31 Copper coins...We all know that you are one BADA$$ HUNTER! Later bro. ;)

nice thing. congrats! just one question - to whom this buckle was belonged to?

Hmmm???

nice thing. Congrats! Just one question - to whom this buckle was belonged to?

can't tell you the persons name who owned it.all i know was it was an officer up on horseback.regular soldiers did not carry swords.so,i guess this makes it more rare than a regular oval us plate.somebody correct me if i'm wrong.

Definitely not as common as the US oval, but enlisted members of the cavalary also wore this type of buckle. You should look around the spot where you found it to see if the you can find the keeper (attachment part of the buckle), as it should have a matching benchmark. Sometimes you can find them in the same vicinity.

WOW!!!! Nice buckle.I can't believe you went out in all this snow. That sucker is beautiful, nice shape too!!!!:cool12:

Sweet! :neat:
I bet you'll take that over a copper any day.
You've got lots of coppers ,but only one Civil war era buckle
Another awesome haul, Congrats :D

Man how did I miss this thread...
