just received yesterday the short book "Finding Civil War Campsites in Rural Areas".
In respect to its reporting of Internet resources, it is almost 100% out of date. Almost every Internet tool, map or resource they reference is either not available any more or they charge money for their services.
Still you can use Google and Google earth and historic aerials probably to do the research they describe. All of their Internet resources were pre Google era back in the mid or late 1990's.
There is a good section on where you would typically find a civil war camp along a old road from civil war times. They do go into some good detail on how campsites were chosen.
