Att. Kansas Hunters

My nephew wants to go fishing early that morning. I have to work that evening. I'm only going to have around 4 hours to detect in the afternoon. If you don't mind driving to a spot near me, I'll go detecting with you. If you get a better offer I'll understand.

A story of a $20.00 gold coin and me.

Okay, So I go out early this morning (Sunday 07-26) and do a little tectin in Towanda, Ks. History of Towanda. I just found a little clad from the city park and then went to the other park where the city pool and ball field are at and found a little more clad. Well you all know how the story goes: A guy comes and asks "Finding any thing". We visit for awhile and I find out that their are a number of guys in town that have detectors and have been all over towanda searching and have been doing so for years.
Then after a little more conversation, out comes some of the good stuff. He begans to tell me about Midian, Ks. An old tent city that sprung up for the exploration of oil. Midian, Ks. location and a little history. He also tells me a story about "gold". Yes, gold! I have to tell you that it was at that point when I relized that I was captivated. He then goes on to tell me about a guy who found a $20.00 gold coin there at Midian a few years back. Then tells me that now it would be difficult getting in there because of the grass and trying to get your detector to the ground. Go figure.
So the silver among the clad for me today was meeting a good ol'boy with a bit of history a good story. For me, thats one of the better finds.

Booker, I'm meeting up sometime this week with another detector guy near me that grew up in Towanda and has a friend that wrote a book about Midian, Ks.

Keep us posted on what you find out. Been thinking of hitting Waverly. They have park and hold a Ohio days there everyyear

Anyone going detecting Sunday? I have plans sat. but Sunday is wide open, have detector will travel :)

Watching the kids most of Saturday morning. Can't go far that afternoon. Church Sunday morning. I'm just going to keep hitting this church site until I've cleaned it out. ;)

I have a site in Preston if anyone wants to join me Sunday? Have permission for the school and old ball field, the ball diamond has been worked over pretty good but still find some buffalo's and a few merc's and I found out from a old timer that just south of ball field there was a football field back to the 20's. Was out there Sunday and found a "26" wheat and a "42" Washington, just not exactly sure where the field was, so there's allot of walking to do :D A couple of good things are that is freshly mowed and as been raining there and is easy digging.

This evening we took a ride to Hartford which is just south of Neosho Rapids bout 8 miles off of I-35. We drove around town and see they have an old school but the grass looked a little high. There are also several old churches. But what got my attention was the park. Along side of the park was an old stone building that had College Building 1861. This might be a good spot. Anyone interested in joining me?

Nice article Dave. I was thinking if anyone interested we could hit Neosho Rapid I really didnt put a dent in the school the other day. The Rapids also has a decent park

Booker, Would like to join ya up there sometime soon. I allready have plans to head over to Preston, Ks. and meet up with Sovuser in the morning. If anyone wants to tag along let me know now. Take off time is approx 5:30am.

I met up with Sovuser today in Preston. I have to tell you guys, He is a heck of a nice guy and a great host. If any of you get the chance to meet up with him for a hunt..... Go! I had a great day. Thank you, Sovuser.

The hunt went well! I'm still in a slump. For whatever reason the silver continues to elude me. I am glad to report that silver was found on this hunt and hopefully Sovuser will post his finds for you guy's. I managed to pull a couple of wheats (1935d & 1956d) Those were the best for me this go round. I really need to get to the bottom of this slump thing and figure out what I'm doing wrong. Any help, suggestions, critisism, thought's, would be greatly appreciated.
