Anyone here hunt Carlsbad, CA beach area? Will be going there in March 2024.

And some cars are even tracked...
Air-tags being used for stalking became enough of an issue that Apple devices now alert you if an air-tag that isn't
associated with your device has been in range for too long of a time... in case a crazy ex, stalker, etc, drop an air-tag
into your bag or stuck it on your car to keep tabs on you.

As an aside for the two (three?) people on here who don't already know this, but you need to make sure to disable the GPS
metadata in your cell phone if you don't want anyone looking at the picture to be able to find the exact GPS coordinates
of where the picture was taken...

Air-tags being used for stalking ....

Well shucks, NOW I KNOW WHY I didn't find any gold coins last year or this-year-so-far. It was because nefarious claim-jumpers put tracking devices on my car. And they found out where I live, and staked my house out. WELL SURE ! Now it's clear why I haven't added to my gold coin count lately. Eh ? ;)

Tom, yeah I know it sounds a bit of paranoia and some of this is a reach to say the least but the point of this whole thread other than how's Carlsbad (which I seriously doubt that since your a NorCal guy) you have no idea. I'll tell you. It's shady. This economy mixed with fentanyl, speed, meth, homelessness, and general COMPLETE disregard of others including authority has the shady types going all out. Add Cali with it's severe inflation and your famous governor and you don't have a recipe for trouble, you've got a 6 course meal served buffet style.

I poised logical reasoning to you ,directed AT YOU, and you turned with sarcasm to TheFrood. I HIGHLY HIGHLY doubt someone is tracking people off YouTube especially this group of nerdy upper aged men(for the most) who wear dad clothes to the beach with a swingy stick. Take for example a tweeker who eats sandwiches out of the trash and his best asset is his sleeping bag and a pay as you go phone. Dudes siting around pulls up his beach on a video and sees some upper middle aged, not particular fit or defendish looking dude who's pulling alleged goldies out of the cut by the handful. He's been there at "his" beach 4 videos straight.. The tweeker doesn't have a lot of brain cells left but the 2 he has just put 2 and 2 together... Hm.... This dude hangs out right over THERE!!!! He shows up on bikes... Dudes close.. at the least he's got that damn bike to get. maybe some change, a go pro, .... If you're THAT naive to not watch your back Tom, then please start. Maybe you're area is Utopia but spots aren't and it's only getting worse.

I think we need to use humor in these situations because the reality just makes you feel sad.
I think the tongue-in-cheek posts recommending caution on the beach are maybe 30% joke
and 70% PSA... At least in my mind. I won't avoid the beach because of it, but I definitely try
to be aware of my surroundings.

Will tone down my YT plugging... Sorry about that guys! BTW, I've been detecting since I was 10 years old and have had quite a few detectors. My very first was a Jetco, Mustang BFO... Any of you old timers remember those? So I have a little knowledge to share at 66. But everyone has there way of doing things! And I am always happy to learn something new which is why I love fellow MDers to comment here and other places. I saw a guy older than me at a local park doing the pendulum swing. He was cherry picking high tones only... He needs to watch some of my videos ; )

Here it is 2nd week of April. Thought by now you would tell us how you did in Carlsbad.

Yup.....I remember it. I went with a used no name BFO for $60 of lawn mowing money. Found it in the classified section of "The Association" metal detecting newspaper that came out monthly. Jetco Mustang certainly brings back memories. I wanted the Jetco Huntmaster because it had a needle but I couldn't afford the $90 price tag! Need to mow more lawns!
