Anybody here think metal detecting schools will be harder now since what happened in Newton?

I mean, are the schools going to be hard to detect now Do you think? It is hard to say, but hopefully not. Because we are not a threat, we just have a metal detector that detects things. Heck some of us are ex cops and ex soldiers. I'm none of the 2 but I am just saying.

Well, we all know not to be detecting when school is in session. Most of us hit these places (if we can at all) on the weekends when things are quiet.

Yes, we are not a threat, but we might see some communication needed between us and law enforcement. Unless the place is posted no trespassing, get in touch with the police before going in there. They will appreciate this compared to getting a call and having to meet you out there.

Wow! I'm going to detect today at a high school down the street, and I was just telling my daughter that I am not wearing my desert tan bdu pants, as I may look like a crazy guy burying a bomb in the school lawn. I'm wearing my black bdu pants instead, they dont look nearly as military. Pretty sad that the actions of one, condemn the actions of many.

EVERYTHING we enjoy as "free americans" will be a lttle tougher because of these types of events...

I thought you people knew, that I didn't mean detecting while school is in session. Guess I have to make myself more clearer in the future. And I know, I'm obeying the code of ethnics.

Hit the middle school yesterday.

Worked a couple spots for 4-5 hrs. Had the local pd drive by twice that I noticed anyway. Just waved as they rode by. I have talked to principle to get a class ring back to a friend of his it just so happened. So I'm sure that he has no problem with me. But I've been harrased at another elementary bc some da that's watched to many first 48 episodes called about someone going in woods with a shovel. Cops came and scared the pi$& out of me. Coming up behind when I couldn't hear. BOOM super adrenaline dump. I couldn't even talk for a few sec. That was six months ago. I will be back as there was an early 1800's button and few other farm pieces I found. I think after a few months it will calm down a little. HH and HH to all

I detect at local school yards on a regular basis, but *only* on weekends or during summer break. I'm careful about digging neat holes and covering them up again, I pick up trash, and I've been polite and friendly with the few people who have talked to me, so I've never had any problems.

It's public property, supported directly by my tax dollars. I often see people jogging, walking their dogs, or using the sports fields on school grounds after school hours - I have as much right to be there as they do.

"Beyond the School Fence"!

Even though I have given many talks in schools and provided the kids with the opportunity to hold ancient artifacts,I have not received permission to search any school! Although the the teachers are the instigators of my visits and offer grateful thanks afterwards, via letters and photographs. In England most schools are run by local Councils and they determine "the Health and Safety Policy"!
The only possibility for me are privately sponsored schools!

As far as the current questions in the States are concerned; I believe it will be a long time for 'the wounds to heal' and parental trust to be restored!,but good luck! :goodluck:
