Yesterday was the day to get back to our new permission where my dad and myself found 13 coppers last week. Today my buddy from Rhode Island joined us so we had three coils over this place. We got a nice 8:30 start so we had a full day to hunt and we definitely put some good time in and hunted until almost sunset. I started a grid pattern where I found all my coins last week and it didn’t take long the action to start. My first coin was a 1787 Connecticut copper that is in unbelievable condition. The problem is it only beeps a 17 on the equinox so it definitely has to be counterfeit which actually I think makes it more interesting. We found a lot of relics and coins mixed in with the iron and went slow. My dad was working on a different spot in the field and comes down and shows us a complete shoe buckle. We took a lunch break and then headed to second field on this property. By lunch I had 4 coppers, my buddy had 3 and my dad had the shoe buckle and we all had buttons and other stuff. The second field started off with a bang with my dad digging another complete shoe buckle and then he popped 4 coppers all in about a ten foot area. We worked our way towards the house that was built in 1790 and found some more stuff. We were finding some deep clad around the house so I think there is alot of fill right around the house. Then my buddy yells over and says you’ve got to see this. He shows me a heel plate with a heart on it and I was blown away. I’ve seen pictures of them but never one in person and I’ve found plain ones but this thing is awesome. Supposedly the story is that these were worn by the working girls around the civil war era. Whether or not the story is accurate I’m not sure but definitely an awesome find. I found the only piece of silver of the day and I believe it’s some sort of broach with glass stones in it. There is a sterling mark on the inside but I really thought we’d find some silver coins but trust me I’m not complaining. There’s too much stuff to list but long story short after about 8 hours of swinging I ended with 5 coppers, the Connecticut, a KG2 Hibernia, a KG3, a draped bust half cent, and a mystery one. 10 buttons, a shoe buckle frame, the silver jewelry, two pewter saddle shields, a mystery lead arrow head that was attached to something at some point and an iron shoe buckle chape. My dad finished with two complete shoe buckles which is ridiculous because they don’t come up complete very often, a couple buttons and 4 coppers. My buddy finished with 7 coppers which is best day ever, 7 buttons, a complete knee buckle which was super fancy and very crude looking, an Indian head and that awesome heel plate. This was the most stuff I’ve ever seen come out in one day and the best part is there is still a ton more ground at this place. It is a sheep farm and they move the pens once a week so in a few days there will be more virgin ground to explore. I was really happy my buddy was able to get in on this with us. Up until today his best copper day was two and he absolutely blew that out of the water today with 7. It was very fitting too because he is a former marine who was wounded in Iraq so I let him know that was his Veterans Day gift. These places are out there still and I can’t wait to get back to this place. Definitely one of the best permissions I’ve ever been to. Thanks for looking everyone and thank you to all of the Veterans out there!
