On Monday, a small envelope arrived at my school. On Tuesday, my boss gave it to me and said “Here, you’re the one that does this”. Although the note from Jay already had the name of the student, WHICH I TOTALLY DISREGARDED, because I did not understand how he came up with the name. I checked the inside of the ring and it had an inscription that made no sense to the name. I looked through the entire Senior Class in the 2020 yearbook to see if a name matched with the inner ring’s inscription. No dice. I took the tarnished ring home and cleaned it up hoping I could see something that could lead me to the name. Finally, I saw “Yvette” inscribed on one of the rings outside panels which I had not scrutinized beforehand. I now felt like an idiot!

I called Jay in the evening and he had found the ring in the water on Sunday , October 20th. After chatting a bit, he knew who I was as we have spoken before out in the water. I now remembered who he was as well. I asked him how he’d come up with the girl’s name. He said he’d done a brief search on social media and saw her name and from the rings panels was able to discern information on who she was.

On Wednesday (yesterday), I quickly tracked her down and called the mother and asked her for her daughter to contact me. About 30 minutes later, Yvette called me. I asked her if she had lost anything recently? She could not recollect anything, and I had to keep prodding her memory. I finally said, “Did you lose your class ring?” Only then did she remember! She was very excited and said she had lost it in the water and thought she’d never see it again. She came a few hours later and picked up the ring. I explained to her that Jay was a metal detectorist and how it was found. I gave her the envelope with the note as well as she wanted to thank him for the ring getting back to her. Although it wasn’t my return it felt good to have an assist on this.

Jay gets the dinger! :dingding:

Never seen a class ring like that. 2020 grad date , but in the stone says 23. What does that stand for. Michael Jordan ? Her jersey # ? At least she's 18 ! BTW... your pirate card is revoked. And Jay's application is now null & void. Melt pile is gonna miss that one.
