Just look at one page of newbies from 5/09. For the one date I counted 79 new members. What is going on? I don't ever recall seeing this many newbies on one date post on this forum.

Is the Wuhan (chinese) virus stay at home or stay apart orders causing the increase in this hobby? All these people furloughed from their job taking up a new hobby they always wanted to try?

anybody have friends at Kellyco and could ask them is detector sales are up?

What gives?

I notices that as well, may be the extra free time made them decide to do some thing they never had time to before but always thought about. If nothing else they can go out and explore their back yards. I imagine there are a lot of new gardeners this year as well , as well as home repair projects being done.

I believe most of those weren't new people, but reupped from a single new person who flooded a repeated welcome message to pad his stats to sell an item.

For a week we had a influx of new members... I was averaging around 15 to 18 per day... now its down to about a dozen a day..

You are right about new gardeners. At least in North Atlanta, I have not seen so many suburbanites out working in the yard.

Maybe what EmuDetector said... I had noticed the same thing, until I saw that there were 5 pages of resurrected new member posts with a WELCOME by one single member, pasting the same welcome message to all. Not naming names, but my thought was also that the welcomer was also trying to build up their post count... or they were bored during the pandemic and just feeling in a supremely welcoming mood? Who knows, but it certainly made it appear that all of a sudden we had a flood of new members, until I saw the dates on the "new" member's original post.

X2. There were a total of over 180 new member intro threads that were just bumped up in the last day or two. :cool3:

No maybe, I know it happened. I reported him once I discovered it because I use the "New Post" button to check on the forum when I visit. Then once he hit 200 posts, his second thread (besides his intro) was his for sale item. He had something like 207 posts (welcomes) in under 24 hours.

new week day gardners and other out door activities

I have lived in the same subdivision in Missouri since 1993 , while I now divide my time between Missouri/ Florida was in Missouri a couple of weeks ago getting the yard ready for spring. I have never seen so many people out sprucing up their yards that early in the year , (still a chance of killer frost at the time.) and starting gardens and flower beds. People are definatly ready for some thing to do outside. With all the flowers being planted should look real nice this year till the summer heat.

THE KOB would rather see them flood this site than flood his beaches !

well keep this in mind when you see him posting something for sale. He had no problem bending the forum rules so one will have to be very cautious buying anything from him.

What gives?

......I use the "New Post" button to check on the forum when I visit.......

A new member "Welcomed" something like 10 pages of new members going back 7 months just so they could get over 200 posts. But, there's still a waiting period before one can participate in the community classifieds.

Anybody clicking the "new posts" button, or checking the general discussion folder the next day, was greeted with 10 pages of "welcome!" replies
on new member posts dating back to October. Gee, thanks!

That is exactly what happened...

I had 7 waiting in moderation I just took care of... approved 5, banned 1 spammer and have research to do on one more...

Tried getting into Home Depot or Lowes the weekend after stimulus checks went out and felt like I was at Disney waiting in line for Magic Mountain.

Floods of new members have been coming in since long before the coronavirus appeared. If I were to post a "Welcome from Connecticut" greeting to every newbie, I wouldn't have time to respond to other posts.

That was a one off... we do have a lot of new members signing up... a few days last week I personally moderated 18 a day for like 3 days in a row... Carol and Rudy also do them...

I have already done 11 this morning...

I have really always wanted to get a detector but with my old jobs just never had the time. But now being retired on disability Metal detecting gets me out of house and helps get exercise to strengthen my bad leg muscles. So Kind of a therapy for me.
