I tried the beach today for a little while (let the old lady go for a walk alone). Busy beach but all I could find was a small light bulb from a flashlight or something about a inch long. I had it set on beach mode with settings from a youtube video. I tossed out a key and the wife dropped a ring in the sand and picked both out easily. ????????

Could be you just didn't swing over any targets, pretty rare to find a loaded beach these days. Which of course should not be discouraging, keep at it and its a matter of time.

Off season? Where are you hunting? I know here hunting the ocean in the winter at a resort town that has several million visitors during the summer targets are tuff to come by. Summer is a different story.

Either you have new sand that was trucked/pumped in like Tom said, or the beach has been cleaned out by the competition during the winter and hasn't had time to be resupplied with targets yet. Not sure where your beach is, but beach hunting is pretty much seasonal everywhere. I'm lucky to have a longer season here in Fl. than the northern beaches, but mine get cleaned out in the winter too. You know.....guys like me that just have to get out and swing the detector in Jan. and Feb. are the root cause of cleaned out beaches!

Ya really didn't give enough info for people to even remotely help you. What machine? What settings? A general area of what beach you're on. Is it a tourist haven full of spring breakers, or picked over from a long winter? Recent storm(s) to rile things up? I found a spot where the County was working in the dunes... the tailings pile had a lot of junk from the spots they don't normally want you walking, let alone digging.

Hey guys, I was at lincoln city here in Oregon. A fairly busy beach and I was searching dry sand up high where most people hang out. I have the legend and it was in beach mode but I didnt give it an honest try---45 minutes maybe and the old lady got hungry for lunch so off we went. More time will help next time---I hope.

If you go to your beach when the sand gets pulled out or cut by storms you may find some goodies.
Better yet go after a hot summer day when everyone went there to cool off and you will find something!

Be patient...some days are like that. Wait for major erosion episodes (King Tides, high swells, etc.) then go out. Eroded beaches pull out a lot of the sand and expose targets a lot better...good luck, been to Lincoln City a number of times...great place to hang out!

Ok, much better. Now we have something to work with. I have the Legend as well. Some of the settings I use:
Recovery Speed: 1
Iron Filter: 5
Stability: 5
Bottle Cap Reject: 0 or 1, it varies
Ground Supressor: 0
Number of Tones: 6 minimum, sometimes Pitch. I dunno, I like both for different reasons.
Sensitivity: 26-30, varies by how much crap I seem to be digging
M(w): wet mode, lets face it an 1 1/2" down the sugar sand is wet. Want dry sand? Go to the Sahara.

Make sure to do the Ground balance and find the clearest channel. There is one beach hotel I walk by and the detector goes nuts regardless of the settings. I don't know if it's their wifi, a security system or something else, but it appears to be an RFI nightmare. I won't rehash the other good advice about following the tides etc as posted above.

Alright the rest of you Legend Gurus... what can I do better? I love to tweak the settings.
