1776 Badge / Pin / Junk?

I found 8 of these in a hole where an old home site use to be; we found a few Wheaties around 1941, but the foundation we knew from old maps goes back at least to 1867. The site was littered with tons and tons of farm junk, clearly a dumping site for a long time.

I think these are some bicentennial door badges at the most, but I really don't know. They have a brass / copper patina and two holes on either side.

These photos are from someone else who found the same things in 2009, and he couldn't get an ID, so I'm coming to you guys for help.

Someone's got to know what this thing is, right? I've tried Google and can't find the right words to find the item if out there. I'm sure it's something modern, but would love to know more information.
