Would anybody have a good guess as to what this small lead disk was used for? I found it amongst other Civil War items, such as Minie Balls, buckle, and a button. I thought, maybe lead weight or button?
Dimensions:
  • 11/16" Diam
  • 3/16" thick
  • Has 2 holes that go completely through (laterally)

I am always wrong on my guesses but it reminds me of a slide that closes a drawstring bag - the ends of the strings go through the holes and you slide it up to close the bag.

Could it be a musket ball that was flattened out to be a poker chip? Does it weigh the same as any of your musket balls?

Lead seals are still being used today. But I have one with a date of 1854 on it. Some of those rascals can actually be a fairly nice piece for your collection.
