Where's Garrett?

I have one of those darn AT Pro's . and it hasn't let me down, never find much of anything,,with my Pro if I wasn't hunting with my Bro-In-Law, he would at least get pennies. So could be my detecting, or the Pro., I bet, I don't have 8 hours on it, and just put on a Viper Coil, I think the size would be helpful, I read I'm only going to increase ( perceived ), A friend in here who knows more than me, if you change coils, do a " reset" I did that, very easy. When this foolish Winter leaves, we will all be out treasure hunting.:laughing::bouncy::bouncy::detector:

New to all of this, needed a detector to find a lost item. AT Pro.....son of a biscuit found what i lost...love it but been swinging the legend for 3 weeks and I am impressed. 7 rings in February, crap loads of clad. Definitely an upgrade for me

As I recall, Minelab explained it as simply not thinking it was necessary to pay the extortion money for the IP Code, so they did their own testing and the specs for the 600/800 are equal to a 68 Code. Remember, this was 2016. I’d be willing to bet that if they didn’t have the ingress issues that they had with the 600/800 they wouldn’t have paid to get an IP Code for the 700/900. Minelab has made no claims, that I’m aware of, to specific changes to the housing, other than it “has the IP Code”. And based upon Minelab’s history of being very creative with words, I’d bet dollars to donuts that it’s the same housing and buying the IP Code is just a marketing ploy to assuage the reluctance of buyers who were concerned with the ingress issues with 600/800.

How many units per thousand do you think had ingress problems? One? Two? Three?

In the internet age it only takes one.
Betting dollars to donuts?
Dunkin wants $1.29 for a donut.
And they no longer make them on site.

Where's Garrett?

Well it is my take that they are in the back room with the magnifiers going over all the old Whites stuff and they are trying to figure out how to build something with the Garrett name on it that is of that quality. Right now they are stumped with the TRX and trying to figure out how to build a carrot that will match the performance of that pinpointer. A few more months and they will probably be making an announcement on their findings.:chaplin:

Hope you are right about the TRX. I will buy one for sure if they match it. Not sure why they just don't change the color. Whites had shells you could buy and change out if I remember correctly.

You are right, and I like the xp pinpointer sounds.I think I will get one.

Oh boy ,i didn't want to do it but looks like i'm going to have to post some pictures of my first 6 weeks of this year with my Apex and Infinium and i don't think the Garrett haters are going to like it

Garrett machines find treasure, and they are flat out fun to use, but I'd find it hard to believe they are the top dogs in any category except security and pinpointers maybe. I'm personally not hating, just expect more from a U.S. company that is currently getting their wheels blown off in the sport division. I'm not sure they are really concerned, or maybe they are working on something that will reverse the trend, hoping for the latter...

I was a Garrett fan for a long time. Started with an ACE 250 and QUICKLY... upgraded to the AT Pro. I say quickly, because the 250 just didn't perform how I wanted. I still have my ATP and use it quite regularly. I have gone through more Minelab machines than I did with Garrett. However, the reason for the Minelab machines is because they are just a different beast all the way around.

Garrett JUST got freaking volume control at a machine level with the Apex which was released what like a couple years ago? That's not rocket science... I mainly got the Minelabs because they offered so much in terms of identification and user friendly controls like volume adjustments. I dont want to be required to wear headphones simply because Garrett felt it necessary that anyone not using headphones wake up the entire neighborhood when detecting. It's like "HEY LOOK AT ME. COME ASK ME WHAT THIS BRIGHT BLINDING YELLOW MACHINE IS FINDING IN THE GROUND" hahaha

If Garrett comes out with a new machine, let's hope it's an actual upgrade and not geared towards finding gold nuggets on Mars. Something practical and functional. Speaking of gold nuggets... how many people buy a machine because they live in a gold rich area to where they find gold nuggets with their metal detector? <--Serious question. I'd like to see some of those finds.

Ok stop and think about what you just said. Have you ever given a thought that this is just exactly what they want to do. Let the other detector manufactures play the 'Mine is Bigger Than Yours" game till cross competition levels out the prices and maybe lower than one or two had expected. In the meantime, Poor old Garrett that hasn't had a game changing machine in quite a while has been quietly sitting on the side lines developing a bigger, Badder machine that just might blow the competition right out of the water. What a strategy! Let the others fight amongst themselves till they run out of options and then when the time is right STRIKE!! They come out with a machine that will all but bury the competition. This is just a thought of what Could happen. So, if I was ya'll, I would be putting extra change away for a new machine that might be on the horizon. Besides, if it doesn't happen, look at the extra money you saved.:rofl2: Heck! That's a win win.

If this was Garretts game play, it's got to have cost a lot in overhead dollars for all these years. Makes no financial sense to me.

Yep, but I still like my ATP. I bet the GPX clone(Axiom) is a great detector, however price is a deal breaker.
The Axiom has nothing to do with any Minelab GPX model other than being pulse induction. It’s not a GPX clone. The Axiom is a very new and very improved Garrett ATX that doesn’t need a harness to swing. It’s expensive because it is mostly for high end gold nugget prospecting. Putting it in the same sentence with the AT Pro is like comparing the price of a good quality high school or college level lab microscope to an electron microscope. They basically both magnify or detect things but the similarities end there.

I'm a Garrett fan, I used the AT series pretty much up until the equinox was released. Still use the carrot. Beginner friendly, pretty much turn on and go, interchangeable batteries (only 4 AA to boot), ergonomics are good, and most importantly, FUN TO USE! I know we all miss stuff, but I saw way too many targets be recovered right in front of my own eyes/ears that the Garrett wouldn't make a peep over, no matter what settings I tried. The AT Max was a swing and miss, not really much of a performance leap over the other AT machines to justify the extra money IMO. If they were to make something comparable to the leading models currently (Nox, legend, etc) I'd absolutely take a good hard look. It would be nice to at least have a horse named Garrett in this race though...

Maybe so, but as we all know the detector companies are constantly striving to improve their product lines. I guess I can't see the overhead you speak of, but I also won't say it's there. I know if I was a manufacturer in a very competitive market, I would make sure my R&D department was developing a product that was a reliable game changer that could, or would dominate the detector market for quite a while. But hey! what do I know, I'm just a Hoser.:rofl2:
