Nokta Makro Legend feedback, use, comparisons, etc

David and Jeff,

I don't want to make an ass out of myself when I go full out public with this. So, I want to confirm with you two that you both think this is a serious issue. It is right?

David,

If we all agree that this is a serious issue that Nokta needs to fix by getting the unmasking capability of MW into Park's M1, then you will be responsible for significantly increasing the good finds of tens of thousands of Legend park hunters all over the world.

First, I am just a Legend user that happens to be able to easily contact Nokta engineering directly due to a previous problem with my first Legend. I know for a fact that Nokta engineers are aware of David’s videos since I have directly forwarded some to them. I also know for a fact that Nokta’s choice to be transparent also goes both ways. They would much prefer to be notified first about any possible “issues” that testers and users may experience. They do not appreciate being blind sided by YouTube videos that claim to have found issues or problems. Dilek is just a private message away on this forum under Nokta Detectors and she will be getting to work in a couple of hours.

Second, I hunt in diametrically different soil conditions than you guys and the soil itself heavily masks targets of all kinds here no matter how fast or slow a detector’s recovery speed is and how good their target separation is. So it is much more difficult for me to see and experience in the wild the difference between the M1 to M3 modes opposed to Beach MW since it dramatically doesn’t ground balance here. Instead of clicks and pops from mild ground mineralization I hear growls and wails. I definitely have verified the amount of masking between adjacent aluminum targets and low, mid and high conductive coins using M1. I wish that situation could be improved if possible.

Last, I agree with everything that David wrote in his post above explaining this difference between the M1-M3 modes vs Beach MW separation/masking. David has done some very fine testing of the Legend. I can duplicate some of the results easily that he has demonstrated. Others like this particular phenomenon are much harder for me to reproduce so I am not onboard with anyone publically announcing anything or circumventing Nokta. I would rather Nokta be informed directly and respectfully. They probably already know about this by the way…..

I shared my info and recommendations publicly for 2 reasons.
To help the manufacturer.
To help actual users of Legend and those who may soon purchase.
Ain’t this being transparent? Seems so. We’ve heard this word used by you know who as of late.

If I kept quiet and only told the manufacturer this doesn’t help current users.

I guess it’s a dirty job but someone has to do it.

Well Jeff, I'm glad I had the sense to wait to hear from you before going any further on this. I won't be going public with this, as long as the issue gets acknowledged by Nokta Makro in the very near future.

Thank you :)

I would just let Dilek know to read this topic if she hasn’t already. Maybe you will get a response from Nokta Engineering…..maybe you won’t.

I usually at least get a thank you when I send them a video or request. They have never ignored me or replied inappropriately like two other manufacturers who basically told me to get lost.

I've PM'd Dilek here, and on Facebook 3 or 4 times, and she always replied. I'm going to PM her to see if she has been reading this thread.

They have another new update ? How many updates do all these computerized detectors really need ? Anyway I liked the night test with the light. Yes , it's not very bright. Would be nice if that was adjustable as I hunt at night on occasion.

I dont think its over yet....I have a feeling there will be at least 1 more update in the very near future....Maybe 2?

Keep up the great work TNSharpShooter.... I am certain that myself , as well as others, really appreciate the time you have spent testing and comparing different machines. I enjoy your videos and recently subscribed to your YouTube channel. I have to wonder how many coins and jewelry is getting left behind in the parks I hunt, due to the masking issue with a small piece of aluminum foil? The stack of 3 coins test you did was very alarming. Hopefully Nokta will get these issues sorted with another firmware update soon. Thanks again for your time and dedication toward this hobby.

I don’t have a problem with your testing. I don’t always agree with how you interpret the results and your conclusions.

The only thing I would do differently is to just PM Nokta Detectors when you find what you think is a problem and that you will post about it here and on YouTube. You don’t have to wait for a reply, be friends or even remotely appear to support Nokta. Just my opinion.

Agreed.

I actually told TNS that I found all his "tests" with the Legend were pretty much useless, except for what he found with MW. Of all his tests, that's the only one that caught my attention.

It took him long enough, and he really, really tried hard, but he finally found a legitimate concern with the Legend :D

No.
I am a customer/user of detector. I am not under NDA. I have freedom of speech. I am a US citizen. And like I said. The Legend users deserve to see and know the info.
You do what you want. I’ll do what I want.
Besides other folks may try or see my info and come up with more good things/ideas, etc.

No secrecy coming from me.
It’s called being transparent.
I didn’t release the Legend in the shape/form it is in.
All I did was bought it and I use it.

My info is free. I don’t charge one red cent for it.
You can’t beat that with a stick can you.
Good deal if you ask me.

I PM'ed Dilek last night to see if Nokta Makro was aware of this issue. I'm going to PM her on Facebook as well.

If I don't hear back from her in a couple of days, then I will do a write up and post it all over Nokta's and the Legend's Facebook pages.

She has already alluded to releasing Legend BEta version software to public.
So wouldn’t feedback on its use be public and not secret? Seems it would.

So I don’t see reasoning or need for anything really be secret concerning Legend.

Yay!

I PM'd Dilek on Facebook and she replied within a few minutes. This company is awesome!

Anyway, I'm currently discussing the issue with her :)

Who on hear asked you to keep anything secret?

I just suggested that you give them a heads up when you find something that you think could really be an issue since they have repeatedly let everybody know that they welcome suggestions and dialogue from end users.

Regarding my conversation with Dilek:

Long story short, I will be sending her all the details and information by tomorrow morning.

For good measure, I'm going to throw in the need to have a manual iron bias control in the SF modes :)

She’s a member here. She can read and follow like everyone else.
She can even ask questions. I’ll try an answer.
Again you can’t beat that with a stick.

It's not like she logs on here everyday, and for good reason:

Virtually all Legend owners who are discussing things online, aren't doing it on FMDC. They are doing it on Nokta Makro's Facebook page, and the Legend's official Facebook page. Those 2 sites are what she is focused on, and where the real communication among Legend owners and Nokta Makro takes place.

Wow, I could have sworn that FMDF was the center of the metal detecting universe......

I still don't know how to use Facebook very well so I guess I better start learning.

I do really appreciate tnsharpshooter's hard work and CD's recent work too.
