Old pot for camping/cooking?

We had to basically scale the side of a cliff and found this about 8" deep under a rock overhang at Elly's Ford in Spotsylvania Va. It was about a foot away from a pile of square nails that were the same depth. Any clue on the age?? We found the top about 3' away, same depth.

That would be the pot from a boy scout mess kit. 1960s from what this link says but I still see that kind in use on occasion.

Bingo! The site was either dedicated or maintained by boyscouts back then...so the sign read. This wasn't very close to there but I think you nailed it.
