Default Mystery to me

Any idea on this? Old buggy or wagon part? Old car part?

The small shaft is square and possibly slightly twisted. The upper part is round with a hole through it. Total length 4".

I would hazard a guess as a connector, whether it is for a wagon, farm equipment or possibly early auto, I don't know.
