Not to sound like a grouch,I like watching YouTube metal detecting videos when I can’t get out myself but .I’m starting to think all this exposure is bringing more detectorist to the beach last time I went there were 2 other detectorist on a beach that doesn’t get that much traffic.finds have dwindled significantly mostly clad and little of it.,not blaming my bad luck or lack of it on other people but dang, these YouTubers hit these beaches frequently ,needing content for their channels and this seems to be a full time for some of these guys ,weaving thru sunbathers laying out invading peoples space. One guy got into it with a sunbather when he accused him of blowing sand in his girl friends face. Think it’s time to night hunt.😕

Not "Starting to", has been for quite some years.
Same applies to dumpster diving, which I have been very successful at but every since the youtube idiots post their finds, it not only increased competition but drove alot of stores to lock their dumpsters.
I've always been of the school where, if you find a good thing, keep your mouth shut about it.

Not much to be done about it, don't watch because they feed on clicks. Might want to start going in the water too, there will always be less competition there.

I've bitched about this for Eons. Nothing you can do. There are a few good 1s , but most are clowns. Traveling so much as coming from Central CA all the way to OC because he can't find the goods where he lives like in So.Cal. The beach does replenish , so that's my only hope. All they care about are clicks /subs. One of them actually buys storage lockers , gets lucky finding some jewelry and then....plants it on the beach for his channel. Could even be planting storage finds for all I know.🤣. Only thing that really bothers me is I like space. And these buffoons will often hunt close together. Like 15-20' apart. And there might be 4 or 5 of them. 1 even touts himself as an ambassador for the hobby. I seldom watch anymore. What they fail to realize is it draws too much attention and will burnout spots. And they don't care...

You're looking at this all wrong. It's a self correcting issue. These bozo's planting finds convince people to buy a manitcore. Said newbie heads to the local beach and gets heart broken when all they find is pulltabs, and 6 months later that manitcore is on marketplace at 50% off having been lightly used and found zero gold.
That's how the vast majority of these go, sure there's a few that stick around and get serious but they will be the types that would do it anyway.

I see my tot lots as the Kansas beaches. I have been hunting them religiously for around 10 years. No doubt they are giving up less today. Seems to me, that since about COVID (2019) my finds have dropped. I can't blame it on more people hunting because my placed pennies have all still remained in place since last year.

Most don't survive the beatings a beach can give you for weeks or months of not finding anything. Will say during the week or during winter, I used to rarely run across someone detecting. Now I run across people that start detecting at 3 AM and hunt for 12 hours according to them. The last morning I paid attention it looked like a metal detecting convention on a weekday. Years ago I hunted 3 winters in a row without running across anyone with a detector.

There was a big surge of interest in the hobby during covid. It's going to die off, get ready for the influx of cheap gear

Don't forget that YT Australian guy who's now all about product endorsement. I also want all the YT guys to keep showing pinpointers when they dig up beach sand finds.

Yep, totally wrong and ignorant.

Its irrelevant... as Dewcon has said many times the top 10% of hunters find the most... new ones to the hobby may get lucky but for the most part they are gonna clean up the trash and get disgusted at the amount of trash at a beach...

To go along with that 10%….. you have to accept that there is ACCEPTABLE LOSS. Meaning know your machine and improve your skill but now days you don’t have to dig it all…. Shallow iron targets are rarely anything else. Put that time to better use

This is mainly true except for 1 important fact. The price of gold. And since it's been high for awile , you will always have determined unemployed guys seeking their fortune. Especially when the YouTube guys are pumping click bait videos of "Gold" being found every 4 out of 5 hunts.

True... but it doesn't mean a newbie who doesn't know his machine like the back of his hand will find more gold than a guy who knows his machine... remember the tester who posted videos with what he said was the best machine? He didn't know what he was doing at the beach... he was a rookie trying to come off as something he wasn't... never saw the guy even dig a piece of gold that wasn't planted.. always would say "might be gold" they come and go KOB ignore them... you know how much gold you have found in your time hunting... newbies are no threat to be honest... I have seen new guys at the beach and just snicker at them because I watch them and they have no clue what they are doing...

Increased competition is here to stay, it is not going to slack off due to fortune seekers losing interest. Yes, a certain % will not remain, they will be replaced, and more, by a certain % of new fortune seekers from youtube. Its a continuous cycle and has to be dealt with like pesky mosquitoes - Maybe we should put out our own videos detailing nothing but the trash and falsing to give perspective to fortune seekers, leave the rings in the pouch !
But it is true, most are not really a threat, I have watched guys swinging with their coil half a foot off the sand at breakneck speed, they would be very unlikely to find anything, and hell no, I didn't enlighten them. One guy I decided to be friendly with and said hey, any luck ? He just grunted and kept going without a word, acting like he couldn't hear me with his headphones on. I ended up finding 2 rings in areas he already gridded off, thats what I call poetic justice.

Same on my coast Larry. I usually hunt from 5 a.m. till 11 a.m. because I like to be home by 12 to make lunch for me and the gf. I never go on the weekends, and like you say, you see quite a few other hunters even during the week.

Last week I was in the water watching a guy on the beach laughing to myself at his super fast uncontrolled swing. Talk about no coil control! This guy had a pendulum swing that would make a grandfather clock proud. The only time his coil was close to the ground was 24" dead center in front of his feet. I don't know if he was a noob or not, but I guess he thought the faster he swung, the more he'd find.

I'm one of those youtube looter pirates, years ago when youtube was young, 2009, and my detecting career had just started. I seen a local Chesapeake Bay hunter posting video of some interesting things on TreasureNet.. .. not gold but the right stuff that told me gold was there. He was very careful with his video's not to show any land marks and of all his video's he only found gold once. I had got a call from VB Max about the video's asking if I knew the guy. I did not but told him I would investigate. I down loaded all of his video's.. maybe 7 and slowly watched for any give away signs. And right at the end of one of his videos his cam swings to the left and captures a few frames of a landmark which would tell me right where the spot was.

The store gets way more dramatic, but in short.. if you think videos and posting don't hurt spots.. your wrong. Had my best year in gold weight at this spot in 2019.. the place opened up and I got 21 ounces of gold out of there.. And I got almost every gold found at that spot on video.. you think I'm going to put that out there.. ..:snapoutofit:
Be very careful on what you Post on the internet.

Except you are in no way the typical Youtuber into self promotion pimping generators , Ebikes and sex toys. You've seen the videos from out here. They show all the beach details and some name the locations. The majority are posted after the fact conditions have changed. But they are now known spots to guys who have never been there before. 1 guy says he will no longer show locations or the names because he went out and there were a zillion guys hunting. But what does this egomaniac do on his next video ? Yup , you guessed it. In all reality , these spots have all been burned by now and are no longer a "secret". Not sure if it all matters anymore.
