I ask myself that question lately. I spend probably 90% of my time forum time on this forum and 10% divided by the other Metal detecting forums.
First and foremost it is because of other good forum members. 3 of my top five "go to" forum members I convers with via private message questions about detecting are active on this forum. Secondly this is a Friendly forum for the most part. When some posts start to get unfriendly the forum admins are pretty quick to straighten things out and even banning some trolls who just try to stir things up among forum members.
Thirdly we get a lot of questions from experienced members and total novices. Reading these post is part of my learning experience and it seems I am forever learning. Some of these advanced SMF metal detector updates from the manufacturer tend to keep us learning if we choose to download and install the update. Imagine having a new car and every 3 months there was an update that required you to re-learn some things about driving your car that you have mastered. Thank goodness cars don't receive updates. Or do they?
Then there are fewer of the tin foil hat theories bandied around on this forum than another forum. And when these tin hat theories do pop up in posts, they are pretty much debunked by members who don't fall for any long range detectors, dowsing rods or distant viewing nonsense.
Lastly our admins and owners of this forum are very passionate about the hobby and it shows.
