Where have you found to be most productive area at the beach.

I am going to tryout the new NOX this weekend. Going to one of the beaches around Jaxsonville. Thanks for your input.

Jax in Florida? I find goodies at high tide and low tide. I find them in the dry sand. I find them in the wet sand. The key is persistence, identifying changes in geographic conditions, how to effectively set the controls on your machine, implementing good swing technique and most importantly, beating your competition. Lets face it, with popularity of our hobby growing, competition is our biggest obstacle.

Case and point, I have a fair amount of experience under my belt. The past two weekends I spent 12+ hrs hunting with the NOX, 7 of which were submerged in the water. I netted $0.86...TOTAL!   No silver. No gold. But I did find a really nice beach blanket. (I'm crying inside, lol)

Perhaps the good stuff was already found by the four guys with NOXs. Or perhaps it was the couple both swinging CTXs, or the other guy diving with a CTX. Also could have been the 2 ladies with blue Excals or the other two guys with Excal-II's. Then again, there was a guy with a TDI and another with a Sea Hunter. Hmm, oh, I didn't even count the handful of folks that quickly wandered on and off the beach with lil' bounty hunters.

Again, pound the sand. Search it thoroughly and search it often.

Anywhere.

Some of my best finds were found swinging back to the car.

This is True! Most Detectorists who have water gear head straight into the drink..most dry sanders head straight for the towel line and grid...but theres the off to the side private lovers swales up in the dune grass that seldom see a coil!

These are off to the side of the main walk in point........places where folks go at night to get busy or have a bit of privacy off the main beach...not on the main beach towel line..you will know when you have found one...bottle caps and condom wrappers..sharpen up in those locations! Serious...If a guy only had an Ace250 as a weapon..thats where I would go hunt...theres good stuff off to the side of the main in those lovers nests that gets lost where bodies be slappin...finding condom wrappers is the key...scooping those foil signals..

Now I'm gonna go looking for places with ( burnt rubber)

Well....Just saying, We track Humans through the fog of Time...and they are pretty easy to pattern by the junk they leave behind....Certain brands of Cig butts, certain brands of bottlecaps, every bit of trash is a clue to the potentials...certain areas attract and hold Humans intent on various purposes...The junk leads the way...Theres no way a guy would lose a massive gold chain unless he was distracted, half drunk, at night, and he was dropping trow and peeling off his shirt...these kind of sites up on the high sand are gold mines...

With all the trolls, I'll bet $100 (now) I can find at least 5 people digging in the dunes at my local beach.... something that can land you a hefty fine from the EPA and local Sheriffs. Think I might just head out and watch.

OH Snap! I forgot about that! Its not so up here...Well..enforcement is arbitrary..some will make it through...like little turtle hatchlings....

I have not been able to hunt in the wet sand or shallow water at the beach, do to the limitations of my Ace 250. That is going to change this week when I get my new NOX 800.
Where have you had the most success detecting, in the water, waters edge, bottom of a slope, in the wet sand leading to the surf? Or is it a secret?:D

A good friend of mine once told me "for the most part, you find change in the dry sand...……..you find gold in the wet sand" Even though I have found gold in the dry sand, I believe his statement to be accurate.

This is true, but I bet the couples aren't doing the diggity in the itchy grass anyways.

lol. FWIW, I tried hunting the dune once. ONCE! The EPA doesn't hold a candle to the fear and wetness of underpants when a snake pops out from the sand.

All the theories listed can and will work,,,,,,I try them all but every time I think I figured out where the gold is, it shows up where I don't think it will be,,,,,like the middle of a soft sand bar,,,,,:shock:cover as much ground as possible,,,,,work close and far out and find where heavy targets are showing up for consistency but most of my best finds have come from a couple feet from shore to the shore edge,,,,,ankle to thigh deep,,,,seems like the rings with stones and large top gold rings will roll to shore,,,,,BUT, they can get pulled back out also,,,,bottom line, you never know and the more time you spend covering the beach, the more you will find,,,,,GL HH

Think of it like this....
You have people walking on the beach.. They might drop stuff on their way to their towel/sit down location but it'll mostly just be change.. hardly ever jewelry.

You have people on their towels applying lotion and maybe they will remove a ring to prevent a tan line. They might lose change.

You have people in the water with lotion on. It's hot out. They are oily. The cold water makes their skin shrink. The water makes the lotion slicker... They might lose some change.

Now there is change in the sand on the walk to the towel line, there is change at the towel line, there is change in the water.

There most likely isn't jewelry on the way to the towel line, might be jewelry at the towel line and there will be jewelry in the water.

Most older metal detectorists (which comprise of what? 60% of the field) tend to hunt the dry and a little of the slopes. They will scour the sand looking for whatever they can find and sometimes come up with great finds.

Then you have the guys who have slightly better machines who might get there ankles wet. Lots of pennies and with the law of percentages might get a ring or two.

Then you have the guys in wet suits, and true water machines up to there necks in the wet and the work their tales off fighting rays, waves, and muscle fatigue to get the good stuff..

On a great low tide in the surf you have the best chance....

Now that you have location, what about conditions. Heavy highs followed by heavy lows followed by times of erosion will get you the best results.
Try not to hunt the mounds, hunt the cuts. Think out of the box at beaches that maybe some guys wouldn't go to... Think like a beach goer? Wheres the best place to go swimming... Activity zones like wake boarding, kayaking, surfing.. etc.. Was there a surf competition, a music venue? where are the bathrooms?

CLASS DISMISSED.

I've found stuff on every part of the beach though the lower slopes at low tide are probably the best. Lead sinkers can be a good sign.
