Yes I get about 1 wheat every 2 months at McDonalds drive thru window when I get my coffee there occasionally. I used to tell the kids to watch for wheats and silver but I would mostly get a blank stare or they would just say cool or a variation of that is "Yo man, thas cool". Some of these kids say cool to everything you tell them.
I decided it is the poor public education these millenials are getting or not getting. I mean how smart can they be to graduate with a liberal arts degree with $160,000 student loan?
So I tried something different. I take a Wheat penny and show them the back and tell them that some wheat pennies are worth $850 - $1,200 and one is actually worth $10,000 (I lie about that part). This wakes them up out of their slumberness and coolness. I do this with every fast food drive in clerk.
I tell them to examine every penny and to look for the wheats.
Other members here might do the same thing. I see this as a public service we can offer. This perks them up and gives them something to do while working at the lowest paying boring job of being a fast food drive-in clerk. Well at least they are working. Don't worry about the lying part, these kids will believe anything. Who knows, maybe one of the more diligent ones might even find a 1909 S vdb wheat.
I know it kind of works, because on subsequent visits I a get a few replies like "Hey dude, I am still looking for the beat pennies" from those who remember me.
So remember your lines and always carry a wheat penny for props and do your bit to improve their day.
