What should I get?

I've owned a Fisher F2 for quite some time now, and have really enjoyed it. But the longer I have it, the more I'd like to try out another detector. If I were to get a new detector, I would trade my Fisher for it. Do any of you know a good detector? I'm looking for a nice all purpose metal detector, that I can use both at the beach, (Dry Sand), and the park. Or, do you all think the Fisher F2 is probably going to be my best bet for now?

Thanks for helping,

Riley M.

Well, if you get another, surely upgrade. Since you know and love your F2, I would consider sticking with the f-line. I would think a logical step would be to look into the F5. that’s a beast of a detector and the price is very reasonable. Call Bart from Big Boy Hobbies and he’ll hook up an amazing deal.

I use a Eurotek Pro very happy with it. I use it in the woods creek beds and corn fields and also in the creek. works good in areas.

To give a better answer, I'd want to know what you like or don't like about your F2, and what you are trying to "improve" on...

What's your price range? I suggest you buy the best you can afford this way you won't need to or want to upgrade anytime soon. I slowly worked my way up to the high end detectors but if I had the money I would have just bought a high end detector sooner, it would have saved me a lot of time and money in the long run. If you want to stay with Fisher there are some really good deals on used F75, or you can get them new in the $800 range I believe.

My price range is 200-250$ (Basically a detector in the same price range as the Fisher F2)

I like how the F2 has a pinpointing feature, and like how it's pretty accurate, when telling you what you're about to dig. Pretty much, I like everything about it. The only thing that the Fisher F2 doesn't have that I wish it did was an all metal feature. I want a machine that has good performance like the Fisher F2 has, and also has an all metal mode.

Are you willing to buy used? You can get a lot more detector for the money if you go used.

You know , if you notch nothing out that is close to all metal, if you hit the pinpoint button and keep it pressed, that is the same as true all metal.
No switch or button to do it like on the F4 but it is an all metal setting.
You will probably use more battery power this way, however.

Yeah that's one way I could do it, but the battery power usage would just be killing me.

It doesn't HAVE to have an all metal feature, I would just like a detector that would be different from the Fisher F2, but still have the same good performance. An all metal feature would be great though.

Yeah, used would be fine. But it would depend on the condition of course.

Check out the classifieds, there are a few detectors in that price range all of which or usually a few hundred more when purchased new. It's your best bet, since you will get a mid range detector with the extra bells and whistles that you won't be able to get with a new detector in that price range. I almost always buy used, more machine for the money.

I'm thinking about the Teknetics Delta 4000. I've owned one before, and I did enjoy it. What do you guys think? The Teknetics Delta, or do you have another detector in mind that I would like?

I'll take a look. Thanks for your help

I've taken a look at the classifieds, and am thinking about trading my F2 for a Teknetics Delta 4000. What do you guys think? I need an honest opinion. Do you all think that's a fair trade, and do you all think the Teknetics Delta is a good machine?

It's a fair trade, they're about the same price, however if I were you I'd try to find a used Teknetics Gamma, you can probably get one for about $250 used if you're lucky. They have manual ground balance which helps A LOT.

I'll do a little research on the Gamma. Thanks for the help.

Riley --

Sounds like you are pretty happy with the F2, so I assume your main reason for wanting something different is just to "change things up" a bit. From that perspective, looking at the Teknetics line is probably not a bad idea...both units are ultimately made by parent company First Texas, so there would be some similarity there, helping to ease your transition to the new machine...

Problem is, if you're in the 200-250 range, you aren't going to improve on what you have. I've used the F2 and The Teknetics and the F2 was better but they both are wayyyy behind a mid range detector in my opinion.
