So this is only my 2nd season MD'ing and just got my first bell. So Im still learning about my finds as I dig and clean them up.

I searched "crotal bell" and all that came up were the ball type bells.

Is this still considered a crotal bell or is there another name for this style of bell?

I don't know the name of the bell but I have 3 or 4 of them. My understanding is these bells were a sleigh bell. They were also hooked to the leather straps along with the crotal bells.

I just happened to find this picture. All of a sudden, I remembered the straps that I found about 100 yards away from the location of the bell. First pic is the example pic and the 2nd pic is one of the straps that I found.

Thanks for the comments and help figuring this out, turns out it is a cattle/cow bell.

Nice Fun to find!! They had many uses. In the old days they would also put them on shop doors so they ring when someone entered. Crotal means an rattle inside a enclosed sphere. HH 401K
